Title: Strange noise and loose pipe??
Post by: whiteknight on September 19, 2011, 01:33:28 AM
hello all

im hearing some weird noises coming from the engine/exhaust? i can tell you exactly what it sounds like, its like the sound you would get from a turbo wastegate and it only happens when i let off the throttle at about 40-45 mph.

also i have a loose piece of tubing near my back wheel, its been chewed to sh**e and all i can say is it comes from the head, you can see it if you look through the air hole under the seat.

thanks

Sounds like an exhaust leak, Streido had an issue with his EGR pipe rusting through. I will see if I can find a link to a digram and see if it is the pipe you are talking about.

Here is a link to stadium yamaha's exploded view of the agility 50 cylinder head, see if the pipe is on that diagram. If you look to the top of the page, there is a drop down panel which has the views for the other sections of the scoot, have fun.

thanks for the link man, but unfortunately it didnt show what the pipe was, which was kind of a bummer. so i have decided...im gonna re-build the engine from the ground up (cylinder, piston, crank, cam ect. ect.) so with the failing chinese engine on the way out i will build a 50cc race engine. wish me luck guys lmao

Nah sid i dont think its the same issue i had. Mine was the chrome pipe at the front of the engine, no where near the back wheel. Can you put up a photo WK?
My small bore chrome u shape pipe on the too if the valve cover was rusted thro, sounded like a small exhaust leak and was noisier, kind if tick noise.

Does it still run ok or do you have any other issues?

These engines aren't chinese, they're taiwanese... Big difference

i can try and get a photo on here, i am experiancing a slight drop in power and its quite sluggish when moving off (have to flutter the throttle) all i know about the tube is its rubber and it used to hang down near the rear wheel and its attached to the head. as i said i will try and get some photos on here to give a clearer picture (bad photo pun)
thanks for the replys so far

I just had a quick look on mine and the only hose i saw that sounds like it may be the one is a small black rubber hose coming from under my seat area and goes to the back of the airbox by the rear wheel. It looks maybe 10-15mm wide, goes to an "L" elbow on the back of my airbox. Maybe that? It is the nearest hose that looks like it could hit the back wheel if it had come off.

sounds like it's a crankcase breather and it's a part of engine overheat protection.

yea thats the pipe i found, it has been chewed up by the rear tyre, thats how i originaly found it because of the rubber marks on the side wall.
will get it sorted asap.
do well  :D
