Title: Help: Leaking coolant

Need help my GV is leaking coolant anything I can do before bringing to the shop?

You could try to tighten the bolts if it is leaking at the seal between the components.

BUT:   Use the correct wrench AND don't tighten too much.

The bolts should be metric and I'd use a box-end wrench or a 6-point socket.
I would keep my hand as close to the bolt as possible as I applied a moderate force.

OR Use a Torque wrench with a 6-point socket.

When it doubt, pay a professional

Are you sure it isn't leaking from somewhere else and just showing up there?  If it hasn't been messed with - then that seal is less likely to leak than the hose connections.  Check your hose connections and clamps before you touch the bolts.

I have a torque wrench do you know what's the Nm or ft Lbs needed to tighten it?

Yes that the only spot leaking.

Per the service manual ---  Water pump cover bolt 7.8_ 11.8N-m

I cannot tell from your photo for sure.
There are 2 similar "covers" photos in the manual.
#1 is the water pump & it has 5 bolts in an uneven pattern.
Four of the bolts are for mounting.  Not sure of purpose of the 5th.  Probably for draining coolant.
It also has what looks like a hole in the top.

Then pic #2 is a side view which shows a weap hole in the side; referred to as "telltale hole"

Manual says" Inspect the telltale hole for coolant leakage.  If leaking, remove the right crankcase cover and replace the mechanical seal."


All of this is in section 12 of the manual and it tells how to replace the seal.


The 4 bolts hold the pump on with a gasket.
The torque for them is 7.8 to 11.8 Newton-Meter (Nm)

I think that the telltale hole may be the source of the leak... that is the mechanical shaft seal.

But you can do: #1  check the torque on the 4 bolts.
#2 is to remove the pump cover and replace the gasket.

And if not fixed, then it must be the shaft seal.

By the way... The manul recommends 30% glycol coolant instead of the usual 50%.

So if the leak  is minor, you may want to just add coolant until it gets much worse.

I will bet that is just a loose drain plug.  The gasket should not leak unless it was just replaced and crimped.
