I am second owner of a 2009 People 50 2T. I got it with under 200km this summer, and have already put an additional 500km+ on the odometer. My commute is about 52miles a week, and I end up putting a gallon of gas in every week. ~52mpg isn't very impressive of fuel economy, particularly compared to the bike's original specs.
Does anyone have any thoughts about the best ways to regain fuel economy?

I would look for the leak . Also if you are pumping that much gas through your cylinder you are probably not getting enough oil for proper lubrication . My 2002 p50 gets 75-80 mpg and I weigh 200+ . Good luck .

I'll see what I can figure out. I would be surprised if I'm actually burning twice the normal amount of gas, since I see no exhaust at all and almost never even smell the exhaust. Of course, I would have thought I would smell even a pinhole leak of gas, also...

What 2 stroke oil are you using ?

There's only one person recording a People 50 2T on fuelly.com, and he's (she's?) getting 56mpg. So you don't sound far off.

I had a Yamaha Zuma 50 and a Zuma 125. The 50 was supposed to get 123 but I only got about 75. The 125 was supposed to get 89, but I got 80 on it. On the 50 I used the throttle like an on/off switch - pegging it while waiting for it to build speed and revs. I didn't peg the 125 as hard, but my mpg and top sped dropped when I mounted front and rear racks and passenger backrest on it. They made it a great hauler - so it was worth it.

I never seem to get the advertised mpg. On my dl1000 I usually got 30 instead of the advertised 40mpg.

I get about 90 miles per US gallon. It's a S50 4 stroke. I too use the throttle like an on-off switch. With my DL650, I regularly get about 48 miles per US gallon.

Getting about 62 on my People 50 two stroke. I am also at 5,280' in elevation, not sure if that makes a difference though.

I've got a 2010 People 50 with the 70cc upgrade. Just passed 1000km and I'm averaging 85 mpg (yes, I convert km to miles) My scooting terrain is between 6,300 and 6,800 feet in Colorado Springs. My partner's 150 is averaging around 75mpg.
