Title: 2 helmets ??? False advertisement!
Post by: scootinChris on June 20, 2011, 03:04:28 AM
I think the claim of fitting two helmets unther the seat to be quite bold!
My wifes helmet is a medium full face and does not fit in the front.
Ok, so I read about the lack of room for a full face...
But my sons 3/4 kids helmet does not fit either!!!

Thus I'm now really curiuos what kind of helmet would fit the front!!!
Anyone out here has had any luck fitting something in the front ???

Oh, and has anyone been able to fit a helmet strap over the hooks?
None of our HJC and Zeus helmets will geton those hooks either.
Will definately be shopping for a topcase now!

They lie about that for most scoots, mine included.

It's not really a lie if two small helmets (or a FF and half or 3/4).  This is how they can say 2 helmets fit.

In reality most of us need to place the second helmet on the hook.

Not a lie?

I disagree - it is a blatant lie to state "large under seat storage that can easily hold two full-face helmets"  - it does not.  Not European ones anyway!

In fact my particular full face helmet wont fit in either of the positions, nor will it fit on the pegs at the front of the seat box!

I am rather angry actually because the quote above (and some other dubious claims) are prominent on an official importers web page even though they have admitted in an email to me personally that they can't get 2 FF helmets in there either!

In fact I intend to start a separate thread "exposing" some of the "myths" of the DT300i - when time permits.  Don't get me wrong, it's a nice machine - just has a whiff of BS about some of the marketing hype!

For example - a little puzzle for you - "twin balance shaft that reduces engine vibration and improves rider comfort" - is another quoted feature - now I have the full parts manual and, shall I say modestly, some common sense and engineering experience - but I can't find these magical balance shafts anywhere - anyone know where they are?   If Kymco is that concerned about balance they could have started by  balancing the back wheel as well as the front!  Now who's going to be the first to say you don't need to?

My FF has to go to the rear compartment and visor facing backwards. The front will not fit my FF or OF helmet. I use XL helmets from HJC. Maybe the front fits a small FF, not too sure though.

Mine seems ballanced front/rear fine and is smooth up to an indicated 92 MPH.

As far as the engine, I am not sure where the supposed counter ballance is other than on the crank itself but the engine to me seems fairly smooth for a thumper.................

I would tend to agree, you can't get two in there.
The memsahib and I both wear open face helmets anyway so it's not a problem, but when I did used to use a full face it did fit in the rear compartment, but no way in the front. We can use both of the hooks though. I guess it all depends on the design of the straps.

Yes, we also have problems using the pegs. Neither the HJC's nor our sons Zeus helmet straps will fit the pegs.
Awaiting a Bestem topbox for the needed extra storage...:-\

Too bad the movie is not very clear on what helmet goes in the front.
Still waiting to hear what helmet will fit there...

Enjoy the ride! I do :-D

I examined the video better, although hard at only 240p. If you look when the guy grabs the helmet, his hand is almost 1/2 the sive of the helmet width and after putting the front helmet in there is a huge gap between it and the front of the seat. The guy looks to be a smaller person of either Phillipino or some other Asian decent etc too.

What we have to remember this is a great scoot for the money. So what if it has some misleading marketing every company does it. When they advertise cars its always the top of the range they show leading us poor mugs into thinking we can own one, then you read the small print. I love my DT. I can get a flip up in the back and an open face in the front, thats more than some scoots. SYM advertise the same but I could not get my flip up in any postion. Kymco is one up on SYM.

I can get my Shoei Raid II into the front or back places for helmets so I presume I could also fit two of them under the seat.

I'm pretty happy with the underseat storage; I had a helmet, shoes riding jacket adn jeans under the seat when I went to the park yesterday which meant that I didn't have to carry anything around with me. Perfect!

I own a HJC SyMax Flip up, It's uses 1 shell size for all the sizes, so it's pretty large. I was surprise that it fitted nicely in the front seat compartment and it closes very nicely without any force or effort, but with my M 3/4 open face it can't close at all. So i figured that a full face at the front is more suitable. In fact the under seat is more suitable for full face. Here's a taiwanese web site to clear your doubts. http://www.jorsindo.com/?p=22&page=10 (http://www.jorsindo.com/?p=22&page=10) chinese words in Red means FAIL (Cannot Fit) words in Blue means PASS (Can Fit)

Cool, I'd like to delegate the front storage to a helmet for the occasional two up. Also if you don't have it therre it becomes kind of hard to go out with the bike and hook up at all.

All I can say is, I was disapointed that it did not fit a Zeus kids helmet.
But all is good, now I have a Bestem top case.
The front space is now reserved for raingear, extra gloves, shopping bag and a bike stand pad (for grass or other soft spot parking).

Have fun and keep it safe.
