I've read somewhere in this forum that running at Wide open throttle constantly will affect life of the engine,if so I may have already shorten the life of my 2 stroke ,hopefully not lol.there's so much hills where I live ,I need to WOT mostly all the time to catch up with the 35 mph speed limit going uphill.besides the oil injection system ,I add about 2 oz more of 2 stroke synthetic oil in gas tank for extra lubrication.
-
Hey man, i live in the mtns myself and i am surrounded by hills. It never bothered mine running wot. I have to run wot alot to get to town, after my build, i still run wot...alot more and alot faster.... :D
That was stated here?... 2t's are sortof designed for wot operation. I think you'll be ok as long as you broke it in proper,etc......
-
What about 4t's Batman? I also live in an area with hills so normally keep it WOT all the time, only slow down for other cars, lights or police ;D.
I know some say to vary your throttle but I hate riding slow if I dont need to. Dont want to damage my engine but dont want to ride like a granny either, whats the point in that? Its boring.
My scoot was well broken in, when I got it with 9000km on it, it was still restricted so had never been blasted about. Normally im doing 45-48mph, on the clock, all the way to work, with maybe 3-4 stops at lights etc on the way, around 9miles to work.
-
yeah,,,think so...wot is bad...for all other parts of scoot...
engine with enough oil and proper cooling dont mine a lot....but other part like bearings, dumpers, transmission, etc...
but thats life...
-
Glad to hear I'm not the only one doing it,lol.4 strokers advantage is the oil circulating in there all the time.
The longest WOT I've driven was about 30min. 26 miles non stop to the next town and back.my sting 50 with the stock cylinder ,carb, tires and suspension seems to be holding together.
-
I ride my AG wot too... gotta 24mile ride to "down town".....I do try not to let her "rev to 10g's" tho of course(that'll be down hill of course. :D). That high of a rev on a oem 4t could be bad, mine seems to stay around the high 8's pretty constant tho
-
Hey Bat ,thats quite a good collection of bikes you have,I'm thinking of getting a four stroker as back up When I saved up enough, lots of good deal on craigslist for the past month, how's the acceleration on your Agility?
-
From Batmans avatar, he says its stock?, I cant believe he hasnt tinkered with it at least a little, derestricted? unless he has no time due to his other projects ;D
I ran my A50 stock and unrestricted for about a maybe 2 months, top speed of 30mph is unacceptable, I could not go back to that now. Acceleration without any mods is pretty slow and uphills are slooooooow to say the least. I couldnt put up with buses overtaking me all day. Its fine for pottering around town or in the city if its busy, but on the open road its a bit too slow for me.
Doing a few cheap mods, derestrict, race variator and torque spring helps a lot tho, now I have a perfectly good commuting bike and im fairly happy with it. Dont plan on doing any more major mods to mine cos I want it to last and not blow up on me, besides im happy with how it runs now, for a 50cc is not too bad at all. especially considering its a 4t and its never going to be as torquey as a 2t.
I had a peugeot speedfight 100, 2t, I rebuilt and was going to use, planned selling my A50, but I only got an extra 10-ish mph out of the peugeot and tho it accelerated a bit quicker, and was better uphill, but to be honest the difference didnt merit getting a license etc to ride the 100cc so I sold it and kept my A50. As far as im concerned its a good bike, for what it is anyway.
-
I agree Streido, feels better with the 50s,no need for motorcycle endorsement, and yearly registration fees/insurance.
I would think that your agility will be just fine at constant WOT ,4strokers oil's always circulating in your engine, but Bat has a point going downhill might over rev to 10,000 rpm.
-
Hey guys, sorry about my lateness......
Well, she is mostly stock.... :D
I have installed a malossi 1000 contra, 1000 fly springs
4.5 rollers, deresctricted boss, unresrticted cdi, open air filter and jetting
Yeah, take off is decent for a 4t, not like the others for sure, I run 48-50mph on mine.. Yes, a GREAT city scoot, but like alot of ppl i have a long travel to get anywhere..(24miles to "my" side of town,18 to "downtown") The long rides are ok on it tho, dont get me wrong, but the zx or s9 gets there a hella lot quicker... :D...
I know word has been hitting 53mph on his ag(he traded belts, shaved boss, multivar, he had a carb on it awhile back also, running bigger jets("98")than i
I do love the ag, jus be sure you leave the blue lights off of it... :D got a ticket for mine, dropped to "improper equipment" and charged $166 last tues... :o :'( >:(fkrs........
-
I knew it wouldnt be "too" stock, LOL ;D
-
Drive it like you stole it dude
Over reving is not good. You have to be going pretty fast to over rev on scooters with variable transmissions. I'm thinkin like 65mph plus with the stock gear ratio.
-
How you been Peters, hey man just wanna say thank you for all the help.how your people 50 running?
Hills here where I live(Hawaii) can stretch to miles and miles.I think the longest hills I've climbed was about 6-8 miles, thats offcourse with WOT.
I'm thinking of going to this one town (elevation 3,000 ft)For a cruise.
Might have to adjust carb due to less oxygen.
-
PRobably will have to adjust carb, Lord knows my altitude(2225) comes into play
-
Doing good macocoy :). My people is running great. As long as I start it at least once a week it starts and runs great. How's your scoot?
I was working out of town for about 2 weeks and when I came back I had some trouble getting it started. I damn near wore myself out trying to kick it. I made the mistake of trying the starter a few times first(Laziness). After like 5 minutes straight of kicking my foot slipped off the kicker and I put a nice lump on my ankle. It really hurt. Frustrated, I gave up and tried again like an hour or two later. Started first kick! :D
I live at about 900ft and while I am somewhat in the foothills of the Smokey Mountains, I doubt I get over 1200ft. So I don't have a lot of elevation change.
-
Peters I have similar situation with my scoot,I learned that just 3 days of not starting my scoot and I will be having a hard time starting it,But after atleast 50+ kicks and it will start, still gives me that scary feeling that it will never start. What I do now if I'm getting hard time to start is I put a rag on the kickstart lever and I use my hand to kickstart or punch start(lol),I found it easier that way,but either way I will end up all sweaty(gud workout)lol. It's not on the manual what to do but I learned it from you.
Over all my sting 50's running great.
-
Yeah, the mechanic at my dealership told me when I bought it if I ever had trouble getting it started to try kicking it. They're funny little machines huh? I also noticed if I give it any throttle at all(when cold) it doesnt start. My 4 wheeler(also 2 stroke) is completely opposite. I have to give it gas to start.
-
That hard to start, i wondered if the auto-enrichener/auto choke is working.
-
The autochoke was my first thought when hard to start, but if it was it will be hard to start everyday,my scoot only has hard starting after 3 days of no use.So I'm guessing it could be that the gas might be evaporating leaving some gummy deposits blocking or sticking something in the carb.
If this is happening to me and Peters ,I'm sure we're not the only ones.
-
Gotta be some NASTY ass gas... :-\
Surely you two arent buying from the same brand store?...IF so, which one so i don't stop there... :D
-
Haha,Gud one, there's a possibility that the gas from the float bowl evaporates and reduce the gas in carb and needs to crank to fill up.that's still a mystery right now..
-
Leaving it for a few days will allow the fuel in the crankcase, cylinder and carb to evaporate, the length of time will determine how much, then will take some cranking over (kicking) to get the fuel back through the system. You blokes are in summertime now eh?
-
Hey sid... Yeah, it's summer time... It was 90* + already here, usually don't get that hot till july-aug.
I jus LOOOOOOOOVE seeing this time of year for SEVERAL reasons.. ;)
-
Always summer here in Hawaii(lol),.Makes sense what u said SID,samething happens to my friends Ruckus,it takes few days of no use and his scoot will need several kicks also to start,at least 20 kicks.I'm not to sure about scoot with 70cc kit, might be different.
-

Hahha, I hear ya buddy!
See but if im not mistaken Honda Ruckus is a 4 stroke bike. So the fuel evaporating from the crankcase couldnt be the problem with that. Must be in the carb.
I think the small cylinder displacement has a lot to do with it. Maybe the small jets cant clear the gunky gas out as fast. Then when the bowl fills up again it takes some time to dissolve the gunk. Just a theory. Still doesnt explain why kicking works much better than electric.
-
No drain on the battery, more power available to fire the cdi.
-
Aahhh, good point :)
-
Okay guys ,back to the topic,So I'll assume that if our little engine doesn't go past 65+ mph,Our piston and cylinder will be safe from harm of over rev and lack of lubrication. So far the fastest I've ran was 55mph (going down hill).Kinda scary with the stock tires.
-

Not nessesarily no.... It's gonna be hard/imposssible to get 65mph on a 50cc anyway..(im only getting gps 55 mph on a 72cc, but sh**, what a fkn blast getting there..)
You could be on the center stand and over rev it to the point of damage if everythings not correct
-
Hey Bat,I'm assuming that 55 mph is on level ground right?so downhill you'll probably reach 60+mph with 72cc kit,I have a friend with your set up and he's leaving anything in the dust on acceleration.
-
:D yeah, i guess you have a point there.....
I am about scared to wot going down a hill(big, long hill) around here. We have some good ones... :D
I rode one hill that seemed to make my scoots act wierd for the rest of the day, so i am being cautious of them long, steep hills....
-
I notice if im riding wot, doing 45-48mph (on the clock) then start going down a good hill i spped up a little then it almost feels like im rolling fasterthan my engine is pushing me? Feels like my engine is holding me back a sec or 2, then it seems to catch up and goes to 50mph, 52 on a real big hill. Im running 5.5g rollers, race variator, de-restricted, 1000rpm torque, stock exhaust, stock filter (it did this before i fitted the 1000rpm torque anyway, so its nothing to do with that).
Wonder if my rollers are too light for the speed or something? Or is it normal to get this feeling?
-
What kind of scoot do you have? 5.5 seems light but I think it depends what model scoot you have.
You may have developed flat spots on your rollers. I just did a little tuning on my cvt the other day and turned my old rollers were pretty flat on one side.
-
Sounds like you are at the limit of the engines capability.
-
@peters Agility 50. And rollers are ok,pretty new.
@sid, it runs 50-52mph with 7.5g rollers in but accelation is affected. Still waiting for my fly springs to arrive then im trying the 1500 torque with the 7.5gs in it. See if that helps. It just kinda bogs for a sec then speeds up again just now. You may be right tho. Noticed my plug was pretty sooty, guess I need more air in? Was thinking of adapting my stock intake or getting cone filter.
Tyres going on Monday, waiting for fly springs, want to change torque over, still need to replace my footplate and bellypan panels from my crash the other week, and THEN do my air supply. :-\
Does it never end? ;D
-
Nope! :)
-
Streido, when u say on the clock ,you mean the reading on your speedometer right?Silly question but wondering.I find it helpful to find out my real speed passing this one street in my area that has one of those radar speed limit that shows my actual speed.gps didn't work for me since it's hard to take a look at the gps while at full speed.
Pumping up tires gave me extra 1-1/2 miles per hour.I noticed air in my tire loses psi in just one day.I don't think I wanna pump everyday though ,.I wonder how's those Michelin tires from provoscooter, maybe less pumping.
-
Peters ,how long have you had those rollers, just wanna know how long they last,.You must have a good top end since your bike (people)has larger wheels than most of us here, and I'm pretty sure less vibration with the big tires.
-
Yeah Maccoy, on the scooter gauge. Used gps and the best I had was a top speed of 45mph actual using the 7.5g rollers, 43mph on he 5.5g rollers.
My tyres loses psi quickly too like yours, gettng new bridgestone ML50's fitted tomorrow tho, they may hold air better.
-

That's valve issue, not tire issue. Change the valves.
-
Axy, Im not changing my tyres cos of that, I find my stock ones are real bad in the wet so im upgrading them for better wet riding. Get the valves done tomorrow at the same time tho.
-
Could be the valves or could be something in the tire(screw, nail, or wire). Ive spent a lot of time on the road and repaired plenty of tires. (Remember a hot tire will read more psi than a cold tire). Use soapy water to find the leak. Run your fingers over suspicious areas and you'll know when you find it. You'll see the bubbles from the soap fill with air. You can check the valve the same way.
I was trying to remember how old my rollers were when I posted my reply. Probably 6 to 8 months and maybe 2 to 3 thousand kms. My rollers are kinda cheap though. I bought one of the kits with a bunch of differently weighted rollers and I dont think they are the best quality. They are more for tuning.
-
Big wheels and tires are nice when it comes to handling and stability. Thats about it. Like any production vehicle the gears are tuned to the stock tire size. So in other words a scoot with smaller wheels would have a lower gear like ratio(like 2nd gear on a bicycle). A scoot with big wheels would have a higher gear ratio(like 1st gear on a bicycle) to compensate for the larger tires.
So in other words kymco would tune the gears on a scoot with 16" wheels to run at the same rpms at 30mph as a scoot with 12" wheels at 30mph.
One revolution of a 16" wheel will travel further than one revolution of a 12" wheel.
They compensate for the wheel size with gears in the transmission.
-
I'm guessing you're using really light rollers to compensate the big wheels.I've been seeing more and more kymco people on the road here where I live,I think folks like those bigger tires, gives them the feeling of riding a motorcycle.
-
Bigger wheels make the bike much more stable in the corners. I don't feel like Im riding a motorcycle on my scoot :)
-
I too like the larger tires, they feel safer and look cooler.
my 50cc Kymco Super 8 looks damn cool compared to my 150cc chinascoot
Too bad it only LOOKS faster!
