G'day mate, I put a TZR50 cdi on my '07 ZX and it runs fine. My cdi was starting ok when cold, but when warm, if you stopped for 10-20 minutes it wouod be a bitch to restart. The TZR50 cdi is supposed to be a race cdi, I don't know if that true but it does have no rev limiter. I have got a thread on it in the general section titled ZX50 CDI. In that thread I have listed the wiring so you know which wire on the cdi goe to which wire on the scoot harness. I bought the Honda Dio CDI as it was $10, the ZX50 one was $64, the only difference was the plugs. For what it is worth, I now have easy starting.
good luck and welcome to the forum, stick around awhile and you will learn a lot about these scooters.
-
sidthesloth, thanks for the info. now where do i buy the tzr50.
-
If you get on to ebay and do a search you will find them. I just had a quick look and found two from scooter assassins for $64 that have the correct plugs and one from scrappydog scooters for $18 that is for the dio (the same one I used).Mine came from scooter wolf pack and was $10 +$8 postage. Look around and you should find a good bargain.
Good luck.
-
thanks hero, will try to see what i can do.

billbow45, do a search on ebay for honda dio cdi, I just tried it and came up with to many to post links of.
Here is the scrappydog one.

-
sidthesolth,i need a 2plug 2 and 4 6 pin set-up. thanks billbow45
-
Do away with the rev limiter. The Dio one is the cheapest option.
-
TZR50 CDI, black wire goes to black/white ignition switch, red wire goes to black/red A/C generator, blue wire goes to blue/yellow pulser coil, yellow wire goes to black/yellow ignition coil, green wire is ground, also goes to ignition switch to cut the cdi power (read, kill engine).
-
sidthesloth, thanks will get the dio and it,maybe even get both if the tzr50 has a good price. billbow45

My cdi recently start to give up on me... my zx50 have 30 000 km and new cdi is to expensive for that scooter i was thinking about tzr 50 cdi but i have 6 wires in two plugs 4+2 the wires are from right to left black/yellow, black/white, black/red, dark green, blue/yelow and light green... i was read on this forum how to whire tzr50 on zx50 but there is no mention about light green and dark green whire just green what should i doo with light green??
thank you
sorry for my eanglish but i hope that someone can understand my post :)
-
The extra green wire from the cdi is only to cancel the rev limiter. the other 5 wires are the ones needed to run the scoot.
-
sidthesloth, who do you buy your tzr50's from as I'm having a hard time finding a suppler help if you can.
-
From memory, I got mine from Daywot, he advertised on ebay. A number of sellers have them for varying prices, just have to look around. I have only bought one and it is still going strong. Best $10 mod to my scoot.
-
sidthesloth, Where do you buy your tzr50's. I, need to get this scoot going. Billbow45

sidthesolth,I got the honda dio cdi and hooked it up by your wiring but I still have no darn spark. I have checked the wiring, have a new plug, what could be wrong, what is left but the coil. Please help this 66 year old man misses his scooter. Billbow45
-
sidthesolf, with the new cdi the green light blinks when trying to start but, no spark. Also I have not had a sparkin a long time help.Billbow45
-
sidthesloth,no spark with new cdi only blinking green light. I have not had a spark in a long time, new plug, new cdi ,wiring checks out I think what do you think it could be. Billbow45
-
G'day Billbow45, if you have no spark you will have to go through the electrical systems to find the fault. What is the green light you mention?
Do you have the service manual? It has the values for testing the coil and generator.
-
Billbow45, I went through the manual and got some test readings for you.
Ignition coil continuity test: Resistance between ignition coil primary coil terminals should be between
0.153-0.187 ohm.
Secondary coil resistance between the spark plug cap and primary terminal should be between
6.99-10.21 K ohm.
Secondary coil resistance between ignition coil terminal and primary coil terminal should be 3.24-3.96 K ohm.
To check the pulser coil, disconnect the pulser coil wire connector and measure the resistance between the blue/yellow wire and ground, should be between 80-160 ohm.
Hope this helps.

sidthesloth, put in the new [ honda dio ] cdi still no spark, new plug, checked wiring, have same coil might be as old as the scoot 04 only get green light flashing on cdi when i try to start the scoor. need any help that you can give me. billbow45
-
As far as i know, the tzr CDI doesn't have any green light. Are you using an original dio CDI? If so, do you know what model it is for? Some are ac fired, but I think some might be dc fired.
-
It doeshave a green light I jus put one one mine bro change ur coil that ur problem u have power from the mag cuz it light up the light on the cdi the from there u got to the coil an u lose ur power meaning a bad coil
-
sidthesloth, got spark big and blue still no start, could it be the carb. also do you know where i can down load a service manual for the zx50 2004 super fever. billbow
-
Yes, make sure you have fuel going to the carby, also make sure the fuel is fresh, I have been finding out that fuel doesn't last as long as it used to. Also, cleaning your carby is a good idea as well as cleaning the screen in the fuel tap in the tank. If you have an in line filter, it may be worth replacing it if you suspect it to be builing up with dirt/gum.
Here is a link to a free service manual, he also has a free download for RAR extract frog, which I think you will need to open the manual when you download it.
http://www.timtaylor.net/Scooter/Manuals.htm (http://www.timtaylor.net/Scooter/Manuals.htm)
There is a thread in the general section, (I think it is on page 3 at the moment), with links to service manuals. Hope you have some success, if you have the spark, you should be able to get it going without too much trouble.
Cheers,
Sid.

sidthesloth, can you tell me where i can download a kymco zx 50 super fever service manual. had fine blue spark but nothing now, new gas ,new plug, new cdi, coil checks out good, will pull the carb. and clean it but, this has nothing to do with no spark any help you can send me would be great. billbow45
-
It sounds like you will need to go over all your electrical connections in your ignition system. I posted a link to a free manual download in my last post. He has a quite a few kymco manuals.
-
sidthesloth, is the cdi on the zx 50 2004 ac or dc fired. billbow45
-
sidthesloth, i forgot to say that i read the cdi with three meters and got nothing, called the seller scrappydog they said they would send me another asap. billbow45
-
When I tried with the digital meter I got no readings, when I used my old analogue meter I got very slight readings, I used them to determine which wire goes where. The zx cdi is dc fired.
-
sidthesloth,Got the manual downloaded today ,great to have, hope this will help what's going as like most of us I hate shops. billbow45
-
sidthesloth, checked for fuel to carby, nothing, carby was full of oil no fuel coming out of the line, replaced filter no fuel, any ideas. will clean carby in the am and get new air filter. wife is about to kick my old ass for buying this scoot but, I just told her that I was going to get this running yet. G'DAY billbow45
-
G'day billbow, If you are not getting fuel to the carb, it could be the screen in the tank (part of the fuel tap), or an inline filter blockage or the vacuum side of the fuel tap is not working. Make sure there is enough fuel in the tank, run the fuel hose to a container and apply vacuum to the vacuum hose, suck on the hose is the easy way. Fuel should flow from the fuel line. If there is a crack in the vacuum hose, this could be enough to stop it from opening the fuel tap.
