Scooters - 125 to 300 => Grandvista 250 => Topic started by: Verlager on May 22, 2011, 06:45:50 AM

I rode my 2005 Grandvista fast and hard (up to 75 mph) for 150 miles today. Coming home I had problems: whenever I stopped for a red light or stop sign the engine simply died. But it would always restart. When I got home, I let the engine cool down and the problem disappeared. I used Seafoam gas treatment for the first time the previous night and also changed the oil. I thought everything would be fine...
What is the problem? I don't want to take it in for service unless I know what they should be doing to fix the problem.

did you notice how hot the scooter was at the time it stalled out?
-
No I didn't.

Has the stopping problem occurred before ?
Why were you using Seafoam ? Did you use the labeled amount?
Have you looked at the air cleaner ? It may need changing.
What is the engine idle speed? If the idle speed is too low, you can get the observed stoppage.
I hope these ideas help.

I also noticed that the bolt holding the muffler on is missing. It must have vibrated loose. Where the big chrome part 8" diameter part connects to the 2" tube is a screw missing. I would sure to know the what the length and thread of that missing bolt was. The scooter runs much slower and the throttle is unresponsive and sloppy now. Any help would be appreciated.

Your scooter problems are beyond my knowledge.

I am not sure how mechanically incline you are but the try taking the muffler off and leave the pipe on. start the scoot and see if it runs better. if not you could have possibly overheated the scoot. check your coolant and your oil for contamination.. (By the way i am an automotive tech). another possiblity could have to due with the fuel pump or the throttle cables. If you you think this might be to much for you to do i suggest bring it to a mechanic. good luck! ;D
