Title: How to derestict the people 50 2 stroke
Post by: yajblackburn on October 16, 2008, 01:12:54 PM
I personally have only found two restrictions on this vehicle.  The first I did was change the boss drive.  I left the factory belt and variator in place.  After doing that, I checked the exhaust.  I noticed a washer welded to the inlet about 1 1/2 inches down.  I had a drill bit just big enough to drill it out.  It was a pain in the ass.  After it broke free it wouldn't just slide out.  I had to take a dremel tool and constantly grind away little by little the opening of the inlet until it slid out.  Then I had to take it to get the holes left from the welds holding the washer in place filled in.  I also left the stock carburetor jet in place. I tried the CDI modification but it got me no increase in speed, so I left it.  The bike quickly accelerates without hesitation and no flat spots.  The final outcome was a bike that factory restricted went 30mph, now jumped to 50mph.  I also have a ZX50 that I would like to share the derestrictions on but there is no ZX50 thread....hint hint.

How exactly do I change the boss drive?  Is it necessary to then change the exhaust?

If you have pictures, Id very much appreciate it if you could post or email them to me.

Thanks.

Here is a video I found on Youtube showing how to take the washer off of the bossdrive.  The Kymco's have a fixed washer so you have to slide the boss drive itself.  The boss drive is a metal cylinder about 1-1/2 inches long x 1/2 inches in diam. that the belt rests on.  Just hold onto the variator half while sliding the restricted boss drive off the spindle and replace with a derestricted one, then reassemble in reverse order.  You dont need to do the exhaust, I just happen to have the muffle off and noticed the washer welded inside.  I don't think to many people know about it as I couldn't find any information on it after I had performed it.  I don't know what the bike is capable of with just the boss drive replacement.  Try it and find out, the exhaust mod is kind of a pain in the ass.

You can purchase it from any Kymco dealer.  Just email them or call them up and tell them what you want, which is a derestricted boss drive.

Hi all!

I purchased a second hand scoot a few weeks ago. The scoot was made in 2002. I checked some parts of it and I suppose it is restricted yet. I took some photos about CDI, exhaust and boss driver.

To check the boss driver I tried to remove the outer pully half, but I couldn't remove the nut. I used rust remover spray to facilitate my work.
I streched the pinion, but failed to loosen the nut. I think I'm a guy with good power so I won't break or bend something. Can you give some good ideas how to do it without damage?

Here are the photos:

This is my CDI.

Is my CDI restricted and could be derestricted or I must it replace?

Why is that small spur on my exhaust, is it a restriction?

..from looking at that first pic, i dunno, but it looks fukd up already, bro...

..no, just kidding..lol...you can remove the variator nut by wedging a screwdriver, or such object, between the drive face teeth and the cvt casing..

..get a 17mm wrench or socket, and pull up, counterclockwise....firmly....

..its for pollution control checking equipment, that will be installed on the 2004, or 5 people...

..your scoot, a 2002 doesnt have all that yet, which is a good thing...

Be very careful with this method...I broke my case doing this!!! >:(
Better just to get the proper tools.  ie. impact wrench
