I live in NJ and just walked out of the dealership. They are preping it now and it will be ready in about 3 hours. With all the positive comments about it, the fact it was over $2300.00 cheaper out the door than a 400 2011 Burgman this scooter won. Feel like a kid in a candy store and mom won't let me take anything from the bag till we get in the car...............

Congratulations!
It's so exciting, isn't it?
I'm waiting for my new Grand Vista to get off the ding-dang truck (local logistics problem) and its just about to drive me mad with impatience!
That's a beautiful scoot - I'm sure you are going to really enjoy it!
;D

50 miles on it yesterday. All I can say is what a bike. I am 53, 5"11" and 220lbs+, emphasis on the plus. So I was a bit woried about the power. I was woried for nothing, this has more than ample power.
I can say is size wise that this is no highway crusing motorcycle, such as the Burgmans are. It is not uncomfortable on the highway but there is no real stretching out. For me that is fine, I wanted a nimble around town bike capable of interstate travel and this surely fits that bill.
The clutch is wondefull, after my current idle of 1700 RPM at 2000 you feel it grabbing. I wouldn't expect it to glaze the plates like the Burgman 400's do. I immediately adjusted the twist grip to get rid of the throttle play. With the low intertia of the 300i I just never feel a need to grab a handfull of the right grip just some slight feathering and the low weight helps with engine breaking too.
It is nice to know if I ever needed more performance all that would be required is to change out the rollers. I ride like I drive, casual, and this is more than enough bike for that. Now later on I'll try two up and see if this is still the case, if not as mentioned there are options................

Welcome to the club. I got my orange dt300i three weeks ago. I'm taking it in Friday for the first service. Each time I filled up the gas, I got 75 mpg. I'm 72 and drive like I am retired. This is a perfect match between performance and economy for me. I like to cruise between 35mph and 55mph. Above that, the wind bothers me. Saving a lot of miles on my leased car. Enjoy and be safe.

Thanks, great to be on one of these bikes. Got another few miles on it this morning but it is raining right now. Knowing I'd be at the higher speeds on occasion I got a full face helmet. Think I am going to get a shorty helmet for around town.

TANWARE, welcome to the Forum..some great people on here. By chance did you know a "Whisper" by name on here? He was on and sorta disappeared!! I am a new owner of a DT 300i.

Thanks, I am not sure about "Whisper". Glad to see another 300i owner. These are just a great scooter; my engine is far from freed up yet and so far performs admirably. I noticed on I think it was the MCO it said 29 BHP. Still plenty of power apparently, either that or it is just a classification to get it on the interstates.
48F here but had to take it out for a short run tonight to see what gets cold. The full face helmet works great but a light winter jacket with good neck protection and some good weather proof Thinsulate gloves should do for comfort.
My first night ride, the low beams seem inadequate for highway speed night time rides on a dark road. High beams were more than adequate to the task and seemed to light up enough even for interstate speeds. If you rock the switch just right you can get both low and high beams at the same time.
70+ MPG was one of the primary reasons I got the bike. I am retired so the daily money savings helps out and being greener makes me feel quite a bit better. Even my V65 Magna could only manage about 45 MPG ridden extremely easy. That and the Honda always felt like one wrong twist of the grip from demounting me.
The scooter so much more fits the style of riding I like to do and I feel much safer on it. I’ve noticed drivers in general are much more courteous than they used to be. I guess scooting and being greener is more accepted. I get tons of looks on this.
I’ve ridden by places and seen people pointing as I go by. In general people seem to admire the scoot, not like the old days of guys dreaming of sub 3 sec 0-60 but more of the “Now That’s Cool†factor from both men and women.

Well too many stop lights and stop signs around my town. Only getting 51 MPG then again it is cold here and that tends to lower gas mileage with these as well. I can't complain, my car driving around town that gets 30 MPG is luck to get 10 MPG with driving here locally.
I was really getting annoyed with that left mirror being slightly lower than the right. Gave the illusion the steering was off. I fixed it though, it turns out under the rubber grommet that connects to the mirror housing there is a lock nut. Loosened it, 9/16" to my surprise, and twisted the mirror along the nut to swing it up to match the other mirror. Now they are both even, apparently they tightened them in but did not align them.
The last fuel indicator bar started flashing and stopped for fuel at 131 miles. It took 2.566 gallons of gas and that is only because the attendant forced the last $0.75 in there. Overall not too shabby., and that entire 131 miles was a blast too…………….

Congrats on the new DT. Mine is awsome too. The only thing that bothers me is I'm only getting 85mph indicated / probably about 78-80mph. I've got almost 1300 miles in it and a synthetic oil change at about 600 miles. I do weigh 265 but I should be getting a few mph than I'm getting. I'm only getting about 60-63mpg but I do twist the throttle more than usual. Have fun ! ;D

I haven't even attempted top speed yet, now at 250 miles. I took it on the GSP for a run, the thing just wants to cruise at 70MPH. Had to hold it back at 65 as trying not to push it yet. Also did though do a WOT to 50 MPH, not much right off the line but once into its pipe not too shabby.
These engines true pipe starts at 5,000 RPM to about 8,500 plus. Since it is setup for economy you are probably only going to see 85MPH. To get higher speed and better acceleration you need it to operate more within the pipe. To do so get Dr. Pulley 20x12 14gram slider rollers. This may hurt gas mileage though. Below I will include a link of a video.
I am going to switch in NGK CR7EIX plugs as they are more consistent in firing at high RPM and may help somewhat. I almost never drive or ride over 70 MPH so the total top speed of the bike doesn’t really bother me. If others show down the line that the rollers don’t really affect gas mileage I may do that at some point too.

Very Nice scoot, I will now consider one of these. As for now my super 8 150 will have to get me through this summer. Kymco52 welcome

Hi peeps,
Has anyone pushed it to find the top speed yet? I'm interested to see how much this engine can take. I am going back and forth between this and the 500i but my heart is really drawn to the 300i in Burnt Orange.
-
I haven't reached full break in yet so the engine is still stiff. I am 245 LBS 5'11" and sitting upright I had indicated 87 MPH on a flat open road and 7,300 RPM. It may with patience have gone higher but I only had a short section of road to try this on and with only 400 miles on it at the time was not looking to push it.
This was with the original plug too. With over 600 miles now, dealer is too busy to service it yet, the engine is freed up a bit more. Once I get the Royal Purple in the engine and final drive with the new plug and loosened engine I am quite sure 90+MPH indicated is possible WOT on the flat without traffic to slipstream (open road).
On the GSP here traffic is usually at 70-75 MPH; the bike can roll with them no problem at all. 80 MPH with traffic is fine, but judging from when I was at 400 miles there is not much left to the throttle for acceleration. After it is fully loosened and the oil and Iridium plug the 80 MPH cruise should obtainable with a more comfortable reserve leftover.
If you need more then you can get the Dr Pulley 20x12 14gr sliding rollers. Once all broken in and set you should be able to see 100 MPH indicated or more. You also will be raising the RPM's and lowering gas mileage too. The problem with the bike as stands is the top of the pipe is 8,000-8500 RPM. As it stands top speed is not at the top of the band so we are losing total rear wheel horse power. Like any other vehicle though, as stock, when you lower the ratio to the rear or even get to over drive you raise the MPG.
As the bike stands, bone stock, it can easily out accelerate standing traffic, easily handles rolling into and cruising with interstate traffic and is just a plain blast to ride at 70+ MPG. You should see the looks I get passing cars on the interstate on a medium sized, for the USA, scooter. That and it is not like I am a small stick of a kid tucking behind the wind screen either.
I can't speak for the 500 other than I've seen the styling and am not overly impressed. Pictures of these bikes to it no justice, in person they are 10 times sexier. Next to the Burgman 400 or 650 it just shouts out to you, the dealer here is a Suzuki dealer too.
I have noticed now that the seat is breaking in my position is moving back slightly. Apparently my overly large butt is compressing the rear ridge and I am getting more room. Definitely more comfortable now this way so I will hold off on getting the seat done and see where I end up with it stock.
I got to finally do a 2 up with the bike around town and at 65 MPH on the highway. It was me at 245 LBS and my future son in law at 220 LBS. The bike rode fine and easily kept up with traffic but I did notice you have to get into the throttle a bit more. The rear felt a bit soft and the shocks are set to 3 of 5 and I hadn't upped the tire pressure either.
Sorry for the long wind but trying to give you as much info from my impressions so far as I can……………..

@ TanWare
No problem at all brother. This is exactly what I was wanting to know. I plan on getting one by August (hope fully by the 4th of July) and want to get as much info as possible. I am a pretty aggressive rider but I have never owned a bike with this kind of displacement (Only 50cc). So I am excited about the power gain but a bit concerned that it will not be enough. BUT it sounds like I am going to be fine. SO XCITED!
I wish I could pick a new handle now. (X5 was for the 500R i) Ha ha ;(
-
Well if you plan on racing against even 250 crotch rockets you will be dissapointed. If you need enough to leave local traffic in the dust at 50% throttle you will be a happy camper.
-
I wanted to be sure that I could get on the highway and pass when needed and evade if I have to. Traffic in DFW is sometimes DO or DIE. Don't want to be on the back end of that statement. Do you know of any place to get comprehensive performance numbers?
Acceleration:0-30 mph, 30-60 mph, 60-Top Speed mph; Braking: Top Speed-0, 60-0 mph, 30-0 mph
You know stuff like that
-
0-10 MPH is the big hurt here, engine is at low rpm and the clutch grabs early. once at 10-40 it is a fast bike WOT. After 40 you start to feel the slow down in acceleration from the air drag. 40-50 is still pretty hard but you know you are slowing down. 50-65 is acceptable but nothing to write home about 65-85+ it starts getting there so you do have the rolling power but it is a gradual proccess.
If you were to drive on one of those highways eveyone at 80 and under gets rolled over and traffic laws are a thing of the past, forget this or just about any other scooter. If you are looking interstate at 65-75 MPH where people behave there is no issue here. Of course for regular highway 50-60MPH this bike works very well indeed.
from a standing start to 50 MPH or roll from 30-60 MPH no regular family sedan can keep up to you. 2 up this may be yet another issue but it hauls my 242LBS around quickly enough.
My bike is still in service today but once out and the weather is decent I'll see if I can get some better times. as mentioned before my local highway is 50 MPH and regular traffic is 55-65 MPH in the speed lane. I have no issue with the new plug keeping with traffic under rolling acceleration in the speed lane with up to 33% throttle, usually alot less.
Now my V65 Magna you do not twist the throttle you just apply a little more pressure in the twist. This bike does not compare in that regard in any way. There also though is no impending feeling of death from one wrong twist of the wrist either. Personally I much prefer the DT 300i, would I like to see 45 BHP from it, you bet! That is not going to happen from a 300cc motor. At least not with todays tech, one day that may be considered a low number.
On that note, this engine is todays tech. You get way more power than any other 300cc class stock engine. With mods you can get even more. So for that fact you can not judge this bike on reviews of others in the displacement catagory. Think of this bike as having the capability of others in the 400cc or even 500cc range. This is because of the added power but still the lighter bike within the 300cc class.
The best comparison I could give is if you would not be warry of riding a Burgman 400 there then this bike will be at least as good at it. If you are looking for a super touring bike the Burgman 650 is tough to beat right now. The 700i though should be interesting if they keep up the bike and engine tech.
