Title: Disc brake pads smell after hard stops
Post by: kawzak on October 13, 2008, 04:53:48 PM
Ok I know that some times after using the brakes hard they give off some odor, but mine are really intense, about 2 miles from home I had to stop really hard for a deer that ran out in front of me, I was going about 55 mph down to about 5 mph very quickly. I suspect they are of a softer compound-as they stop good. However, I checked everthing and did not find any problems.Has any one else experienced this? My second question is- has any one replaced their disc brake pads with aftermarket pads? and if so do what brand ,and do they last any longer ? I think the OEM are EBC brand pads. I would like to swap mine out when they are about 3/4 gone. I do not do a lot of intown riding -so time wise any disc brake pads will last me quite awhile. I perfer a softer performance brake pad, but not these! My garage stunk for an hour! Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

How many miles do you have on your scooter? If they aren't bedded that's the volatiles burning out of the pads. If that is the case and you keep using them hard you'll end up with glazed pads.
