Title: wierd rumbling feeling
Post by: caopow on March 24, 2011, 02:10:25 AM
Hi! This is my first post, and I hope I can find some answers here...

I've noticed that when I accelerate from a stopped position on my People 50, I feel the rear "rumble" a bit.  It's more prominent when I have another passenger on the backseat.  I was wondering if this was normal?  My boyfriend thinks it may be a transmission related problem.

Please let me know, and I appreciate it!

I do not understand what rumbling signifies. I have a 2004 People 50. I bought it brand new. It now has 22,000 Km. on it. Mine "rumbles" sometimes in the morning, as I start off to work. My rumble feels like the belt is slipping. I keep my scooter well maintained. I checked it out the first time it "rumbled."  There was nothing wrong with it. It runs fine. I don't worry about anymore. Have someone open it up and check.

Is your scooter fairly new? Mine also did this within the first 500km until I put new clutch springs in(around 4500km). Worried me for a long time too. Mine went away after I put stiffer clutch springs in so must be something to do with the clutch. I wouldn't worry too much. And if it bothers you enough just get stiff clutch springs they are pretty cheap like less than $10. I went ahead and ordered the 1000 rpm springs and the 1500 rpm springs cause they were so cheap. Been meaning to try the 1500 springs.

Oh and welcome to the forum  ;D You have come to the right place.

As mentioned, the drive belt will be the first thing to check. As they wear, they tend to start to slip on the faces of the pulleys, and you can really feel it just as you're slowly accelerating from a stop, and usually it is worst at the beginning of a ride, when everything is cold. It tends to smooth out a bit once the belt and the rest of the CVT gets warmed up.

I noticed similar symptoms on my 2002 people 50 . I had the clutch pads and springs replaced (they did not show unusual wear) and it improved for a while . I found that if I take off from a stop more deliberately it does better than trying to ease into motion . I am just over 200 lbs. Hope this helps but I think it is fairly normal behavior on the people 50 . Good luck .

Thank you for all the responses.  It's a 2005 People 2t, bought it with about 600 kilometers on it. Now it has well over 1200 km! I'm not too worried about it after reading all the replies.  Thank you for taking the time to help a fellow motorist out!
