Title: Accidently pressed electric start button

I just bought a Sting formerly known as the Yup.while the engine was running I accidentally pressed the start button (3-5)seconds.I heard this grinding noise and now been thinking about I damaged Engine etc.I'm new to owning a moped..heeelp.

No reason for a poll. ;)

Your core engine won't be damaged, but it's not healthy for the toothed wheels of the electric starter.

Thanks,I've been thinking about it the whole day,actually caused my whole day to be miserable.I'm not very good in mechanics...

I wouldn't make a habit of it, but it should be just fine.  The worst thing that can happen is you can knock the teeth of the starter pinion.  They are hella tough, though!  If your scoot starts just fine, you are in the clear.  No worries, mate.

FYI... it's not a moped... unless it has pedals.  You are proud owner of a SCOOTER.

Just kidding but some get real upset about it.

As quickly as reasonably possible, I would drain it of all fluids and throw it in the nearest river.

Actually, I am not a mechanic, but I would assume this type of abuse is expected from time to time, and designed into the starter.  But, as others have noticed, 3 to 5 seconds is quite a while to notice the issue.   I guess it is like, "Where the heck is my hat?"  (Ans.  on your head)  What the heck is that awful grinding noise?  (Ans.  I guess I should remove my finger from the start button).  Sometimes it takes a while for the obvious to kick in.

This sort of thing happens to the best of us.  Ever forget to put your feet down at a stop and fall over?  That usually happens next to a school bus.

I also have tried to kickstart a Yamaha TT350 on it's kickstand... While in gear.  D'oh!  (>.< )

If it starts up next time without any funny noises, you are fine.
You just nicked your starter gears.
I have done it many times myself.  While not the best thing for the mechanism, it is expected.
Your motor should not have been effected.
Usually it is your pride that takes the biggest hit when this happens.
Forgetting to put down the kick stand is far worse in all respects.
