because this is always a dead area of the forum. I really like mine, though I realize the top speed is a bit challenged. For 55 mph driving I think the 250 is a grand machine, though 70 mph would probably keep it near red line.

I tend to read the 150+ forums quite a bit looking for new ideas and general information.

Yah, I read all the forums for info too, I have been lurking here since I bought mine in October 10, just now decided to post. I just like the xciting 250 since it is my scoot, and it seemed to me the perfect blend of maxi and fuel efficiency. Plus, many people talked up the quality of Kymco, so I got it rather than the other scoot brands like Yamaha and Suzuki.

Hey, you got a great scooter! Welcome. :) Guess there're a lot of the same parts between the 250 and 500. I always look to see what's new in the 250 section for just that reason since I have a 500.

Urbestfriend has a 250 (See Picture under Fog Lights Thread). Yes....The 250 and 500 are very
similar. That's why I check both subjects too. Take the Speedometer thread under 500.
It had the information I needed because the Speedo is probably identical. I think a 500 is too
big to handle for me, but the 250 does everythi9ng I need. I also have a Grandvista. Each
has it's own likes. GV is lower to the ground, but the bigger wheels on the Xciting are better
on the rioad.

Passed my driving test today here in Indiana. Scary really, as the test isn't just a pushover. One guy, with a Harley, while just parking the bikes awaiting instructions, had it fall over on him. Caught his foot underneath and he couldn't get up. The people with ABATE, who do the testing, had to pick the bike up off him. Prior to my taking the test two guys with big Harleys failed the test. One guy mentioned I could probably make $200 just loaning out the Xciting 250 to guys to take the test today. Despite it being big for a scoot, it is still smaller than a Harley.
Further, many of the tests were timed for points, like being able to accelerate and stop in box. Well, honestly that scoot is so quick with acceleration, I could leap from the line and stop in the box in good time. Other guys were just getting their clutch fully engaged when it was time to stop. So despite blowing the U-turn test, my other scores pulled me through.

Got 1 a month ago, a 2009. Love it so far after about 500 miles.

I've had my Xciting 250 for about 3 1/2 years now. I agree that the speed is a little wanting if you want to go on the highway. I did get mine up about 65 mph when a giant SUV decided to tailgate me on a country road. >:( I tried to get ahead of them, but they just kept pushing. Scary to look in the rear view mirrors and only see the faces of the driver and passenger. As for the speed, I was just over 7k rpm and still a little bit to go before red lining.
Well, other than a few boneheaded drivers, I love Xciting. I don't drive long distances to work, with lots of stop and go traffic, but I still get a little over 40 mpg. When I've taken it out for longer rides, I see the mileage improve substantially.
Like others in the older forums, you might see a change in performance at about 2,000 miles. Mine seemed get a little quicker pulling away from lights, and started cruising at 50 at a slightly lower rpm. All in all, a great scooter. If only I could figure out a way to make the seat softer. :P

I don't understand. You are struggling to get over 65 mph. Why? My Yager GT 200 is actually about 175 ccs. You have 250. Yet, I can get to 70 with no trouble. On level highway at 70 mph I am on the border of the red line but I have hit 75 on the wrong side of the red line. I've only done it once or twice so I do not make a habit of it. I was only on the highway to see what WOT would do. I never did get to max speed, just close.

The XCiting 250 weighs 33% more than the Yager 200 and has more frontal area for more drag. So you're comparing apples and oranges. It is more stable though - especially when carrying a passenger.

Richard, the xciting 250 weighs in at just over 400lbs. I believe the weight of the bike to motor power is a little off. I have the 500 and even that is kind of needing a tad more power. I am happy with its acceleration on the highway as it produces a good amount of passing power over 35mph.

Drag resistance is calculated by multiplying frontal area by elusive cw factor (dimensionless parameter describing the retarding force exerted by the air as a vehicle moves).
Considering that you do not know cw factor of both scoots, it is not possible to conclude that the scooter with higher frontal area has higher overall drag resistance. ;D

So if next spring I want to get a bike that is not too heavy to handle during slow maneuvering or parking, yet be a highway bike (cruise at 70-75), I should stay away from the exciting. Maybe the people 300?

It'll cruise happpily at 70-75 with no issues (Xciting 500). I would prefer it get there as fast as an 1100cc version ;)
I had mine at 80 with my wife last Friday night for a good 10 minute stint to test the acceleration on the freeway. Overall, I am impressed. Like anything, we humans always want more. I guess once you settle in on something, you realize "I shoulda' gotten the bigger one!"

I've GPS confirmed my speeds which are about 10% less then what the speedo reads. I've found my 250 will cruise 60 mph all day long just fine and be able to keep the RPM's safely below redline. At 65 mph the RPM's start to flirt with the redline. 70 mph and you are around 8000 RPM's. I found I still had a bit more throttle left but didn't want to keep pushing it in the red. This is my first scoot or motorcycle and like many I found it to be great to start on but having the 500 with a bit more power for the freeway now would be nice. I'll probably end up buying something with more power after I've worn out my 250. I originally bought it for commuting and the speeds and distance I travel the 250 is actually perfect. Also most of the freeways around here are 60 mph speed limit and the sections that are 70 I just go around 65 mph, surprisingly there are lots of cars that drive these speeds too. (I never knew since I was always blowing past them in my car ;D)

BTW, it seems there are only 6 or 8 Yager guys too. It sure feels lonesome. Whenever I come on, I read the unread posts. No sense going to the Yager page.
