Title: Kymco ZX Super Fever CDI
Post by: djwazzz on February 20, 2011, 12:49:02 PM
Hello people,

I have spent hours on searching about my Kymco ZX Super Fever CDI derestriction, but none of my answers get to what my CDI looks like.
I have only one green wire and my CDI plug has only 5 pin.

I have tried cutting the green wire but the scooter would not start. Then I had to adjust it again.

Can someone help me about it?

I have already derestricted my pipe and my boss drive.

That's odd!  If you have 5 pin cdi then I bet it's not restricted.  Post up a pic if you can.

If you cut the green wire, you cut the earth, wont run, if you bridge the light green and dark green wires you will disable the rev limiter, derestricting the cdi.

If it doesn't have 2 green wires it is probably an unrestricted cdi to begin with.  Are you certain that it is limiting the rpm's?

I am not really certain but it does not go maximum 70km/h.
Even after a good maintainance, derestricted variator and derestricted exhaust. I have tried a competition DIO cdi, it does the same but overheat the kymco.

kymco has changed the zx 50 cdi boxes. We got one for my bike last year and when my mech was about to install it, he noticed that the colors of the wires were different. He poundered over it for couple of minutes, but was able to get it derestricted. I will be stopping at the shop tomorrow. I will ask him what he did and post it on here.

For the ZX, you may either try scooter assassins or suitai themselves. Both have a unrestricted cdi.
Sid happened to use a diffeent cdi and wired it in. (think it was a tzr50?)That cdi is the least expensive one. He has a thread on it here somewhere

The TZR50 cdi is cheap for most scoots, but to buy one for the ZX 50 is considerably more expensive. I bought the one for the Honda Dio and sussed the wiring, it was a lot cheaper. On ebay the one for the ZX can go as high as $60.

I'm running the same one as Sid.
Here it is:  http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Performance-scooter-5-pin-CDI-pit-bike-atv-Honda-Dio-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem3eff8867e4QQitemZ270575101924QQptZOtherQ5fVehicleQ5fParts (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Performance-scooter-5-pin-CDI-pit-bike-atv-Honda-Dio-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem3eff8867e4QQitemZ270575101924QQptZOtherQ5fVehicleQ5fParts)

Seems to be working great.  I can give you the wiring configuration if you need it.

If you do go for the TZR 50 CDI, buy the Dio one, it is much cheaper, here is the wiring for it.

G’day all, it is a little late, but I see I have not put in the correct colour codes for the CDI. So here is the belated update.
The manufacturer is Ruima and the model is New Racing CDI (TZR50)

Scoot                          CDI

Black/White                   Black
Black/Red                      Red
Blue/ Yellow                   Blue
Black/Yellow                  Yellow
Green                             Green

hy!
I have repaired my cdi box
it is suitai 410 original cdi for kymco zx....
this is how i done it:
you must be shure that is your cdi not workin becose you can damage cdi if you try to do this
cdi has pcb in litlle plastic box and then is box filled with epoxy raisin you must cut cdi 1mm from the bottom of the box all around of the box... then you take sharp screwdriver or knife and take away the plastic and some epoxy... you will see the solder side of the pcb if you done it right the pcb will not broke...
now you take solder and re-solder every contact....
and that is it....
I have 3 borken cdi becose my kymco zx has 30000 km and every 10000km i must exchenge the cdi and i have done it with 2 cdi and they work first one i have damaged in opening it....
i think that every broke cdi is becose bad soldering....

What were the symptoms of the broken cdi? I just replaced mine with a tzr50 cdi, all good.

Yes, it could be your coil, did you have spark before you tried the cdi?

I have plenty of time playing with cdi's but have hade minor trouble with my kymco zx cdi. More often than not if yours does not look like what's able to be done is not there than its already done or made to not be able to be. And every cdi will act different on your scooter some more noticeable than others. I previously owned a dalem track blitz r.I.p but I killed the cdi so I went to the scooter/motorcycle junk yard down the street and got 5 cdi's all same year  and model all acted different than others some bad and good it's a gambel

So sorry for not replying sooner, I've been out of commission with a move and going to full-time at work. So glad to see you got yours working. I asked my mech about it and he really couldn't remember how he did it.

Welcome to the forum superfevergurl.  ;D
What mods have done to yours to date?.

I haven't done any mods to mine yet, cuz I'm repairing it from when it was stolen. The jerks did a number on it. It was
- spraypainted silver
-everything electrical was blown (all lights, no horn, signals, gauges)
-missing right rear view mirror
-cut a big square hole into the front panel
-tore plastic in seat trunk
-tore door off of glove compartment
-hacksawed off the mud flap and removed the rear fender

Once I get it back to it's previous glory then I will get a technigas pipe, have work down to the transmission and get a 70cc kit.
-there's more but that's all I can think of right now.
