Haven burned out a starter already, I've been using my kick starter to get the scoot fired up during the winter. I've found that it starts the scooter easily (usually first kick) and saves the battery and starter from the consequences of excess cranking using the electric start.
This worked great - right up until my cvt cover cracked in the area around the starter drive gear. Seems like the kick starter really is meant for backup use and not daily use. So just an fyi for those who, like me, figured that using the kick starter was better than straining the electric starter.
On the bright side, a new cvt cover was somewhat cheaper than a new starter....

Been there done that.my cover broke right after geting it back from the dealer doing work on my scoot.
they didnot tighten evrything down good eonugh and the clutch bold came threw the cover man was I mad called theam back and they dont wana take the blame for it so I just put some jb weld on it and called it good.

Another reason to do the work ourselves.
CVT covers are very cheap here in the Netherlands, but I like to believe if I keep the whole assembly lubed and all the bolt tightened to spec I won't have any problems. Hers to hoping right!

true dont over lube your spring and kick start it well get allover the belt and thats no fun.

stop kicking it like it`s a yamaha xt600 :)
you should not press hard from begining, this ruins it! press gently to feel the compression (it`s stiffer) then apply more force.
best way is this:
with ignition off give it 2 kicks to lube the engine >> ignition on turn half throttle and kick it
but i like to think you all know this only you don`t have patience :P
