Title: 2016 Kymco like 200i sputtering. Won't accelerate keeps dying
Post by: Roads by TJ on April 25, 2026, 12:03:42 AM
I have a 2016 Like 200i. I replaced the fuel pump, which was dead. It started at first and drove with sputtering and poor acceleration. Now it starts for a few seconds and sputtering trying to idle. Shuts off. It was sitting for about 1.5 years and had nasty stuff in the old pump filter. Put injector cleaner in take when pump was replaced. It drove a few times before this happened. Not sure where to look now.

Thanks,
TJ

still sounds like a fuel delivery problem. Did you clean out the tank of old fuel and clean the filter screen, fuel line and injector?  I know there are other posts here by Ruffus detailing exactly how to clear the fuel line / system. He should be along soon.

As hawk says, looks like still having a fuel  issue.
Pls start like that:
-new fuel filter
-take out injector (leave it on cables)
-pull off fuel line and push it on the injector nozzle (fix with hoseclamp)
-put the whole assy in a container (fuel will spill)
-switch on ignition

Fuel coming out?
-do it several times
-reassamble

Sputtering gone
YES/NO
If NO
-set up cleaning station as pic shows
Good luck and come back for Qs or feedback.

To leave it e-connected is needed to pulse-open injectors magnet valve.

You replaced the in-tank fuel-pump black rubber hose, when you replaced the pump, yes?
This hose has been known to rot, crack, and leak with age. This causes poor fuel pressure to the injector.

My dime is on a fouled injector.
Maybe soak the injector in a bit of Sea Foam Injector Cleaner, 5.0z, Walmart, $6.
I've pulsed a LIKE injector to spray after attaching 2 wires to a little 9volt battery, and then tapping the leads to the injector (or the battery)
9Volts was enough to make the injector spray - so I could look at the spray pattern.
Pulsing the cleaner through the injector might clean the crud enough to get running. It is not as effective as a back-flush, but.....

Let us know how it is going with your LIKE200i!

Thanks for the feedback. I'll try and tackle this job over the weekend. I'll try the things mentioned. Mainly cleaning the injector. I did replace the fuel line as it was rotted. I'll go through the tank again to be sure I got it all cleaned up. I'll report back.

Let us know?
A LIKE which has sat unused for a time - has that strange thing with the rotting fuel line. Ridden often - and it doesn't seem to happen.
I'm going on 13 years and the line seems to be OK - I probably should pull the assembly to check! Put a new hose on and change the filter.

Update. The new injector started sputtering so I started the process pulling the tank. Well, attempting to. Does anyone have pictures of removing the cowling off the like 200? I'm not seeing the screens towards the base. Once that's out I'll clean out the tank and injector. Put on an in-line fuel filter and try it out. I'm guessing it'll take a couple days too clean the varnish at the bottom of the tank. Any other suggestions?

Yes.
No cowling off.

Fuel pump assy out completely from top.

Check for rotten parts like rubber hose or filter screen.

Empty tank: syhphone out as much as possible
Injector off,
-fuel line extended,
-container for fuel,
-ignition on,
 -fuel out,
-several times
 Then pump out.
