Title: New set of E-brakes and the poor Robin

Overnighted from RevZilla.

Came home yesterday and found that a Robin had construction a beautifully made new nest in the wreath on our front door.
It was pretty intricate with so many thin wisps of grasses, etc.. The nest was super smooth inside - just smaller than a tennis ball.
This has happened before - but I  forgot to put the wreath away this spring.
It just does not work to have a Robin family living on the front door. So I removed it carefully- but it was too entwined in the wreath and fell apart. I could clearly hear the Robin in distress, watching me from a nearby tree. Poor thing - I  felt horrible! She'd worked tirelessly and created a beauty!

Just hope she has time and energy to build a new one if she is with eggs.

we've had a nest on top of our outdoor entry light for about 5 years, not robins, sparrow or wren or maybe something else, they come back every year faithfully to raise another family

Sorry Stig, call me a softie, but I'd have used the back door for a month or two to leave Mr & Mrs Robin undisturbed.

"You're killing me, Smalls!"

After big rains here - circling the house through the side and back yards is not an option. We don't have a mud room at the back door.
Thankfully - their nest appeared in one day - and no eggs were in it.
We've accommodated Robin nests in the porch light - several feet from the door. The birds aren't happy, but the eggs have hatched.
Years ago, I had to bring bowls of water to a Dove who nested in our roof gutter. Very hot days/weeks of drought - poor bird sitting in the direct sun with the heat of the roof shingles.... I fashioned a foil tray with a small bowl of water, and slowly slid it down to her in the gutter. A string on it so I could pull it back - then slid it back with a 12' pine corner-round. We had children!

The Robin now has her choice of five 30-yr old trees, and 3 massive old border trees in our yard. The wreath is in the garage....

daughter helpfully noted my Xmas light are still up....
Her friends, embarrassingly, asked about that one day. She said, "my Dad said he does that so the pizza guy can find us!"

I was talking to my GP the other day. He asked how my hearing is doing in my L ear, and how my vision is in my L eye.
"Well, the other day, crossing the street with my daughter - she took my left elbow and said "Padre', it's like going for coffee with Helen Keller!"

She exaggerates.
Like her father.

PS - no joke. These days, I am very careful not to trip and fall over something. I hit the ground like a 270lb bag of coal.

Reminds me that I took a doggie-assisted fall last week on a rocky beach.  Well, I blame the husky, but truth is I'm no longer as sure-footed as I was 20 years ago!  The bruise on my derriere is a sight to behold and it's taken a full week for the sprain in my throttle wrist to die down.  Road tested it for 40-odd miles yesterday and it did better than my arthritic hip.  Old age is certainly a challenge.
