There were no bubbles in the fuel filter. After ignition a few bubbles arrived from the direction of the gas tank. When I revved the throttle high more bubbles arrived. How is that possible? Does is mean anything?

Means there might be a leak somewhere, sucks air

Are you nearly out of gas?
Otherwise, agree with Ruffus....follow fuel line from filter to the tank. Looking for cracked fuel line or a poor connection of the line.
Might this air in your fuel line be related to your stalling at stops?

I'll keep at it.
The carb was cleaned yesterday and the pilot jet seemed clogged. It would make sense that that is the problem but time will tell.

It means something's happening. It means nothing, in fact!

To close this out, a bubble in the fuel filter seems normal.
