Title: NSR: your neat concert sites? (snowing again here)
Post by: Stig / Major Tom on March 02, 2026, 04:09:41 PM
Tanglewood in Lenox, Mass.
Pretty neat concert site in the Berkshires, western Mass.
The Boston Pops plays there in the summer - as well as an extensive schedule of popular artists.
Seating is covered and out on the large lawn.

Picnicking on the lawn is very popular.

James Taylor is a resident of Lenox, and a rather special citizen.....I'd skip his concert dates now that he's reached an almost Biblical status with Bay Staters!!

In the 60's, when I lived down the road in Amherst, I saw Ravi Shankar, Taylor and Judy Collins there.

Hey Stig,

James Taylor also has a house in Jamestown RI. Real close for the Newport Jazz Festival. You ever see him there?

Heard a lot about those Newport festivals- but never made it to one. Closest I ever came to Taylor was the day I walked into a diner in the Berkshires. Taylor was sitting with my favorite, Tom Rush! Later that day we passed Richie Havens on the sidewalk!

Daughter and I  have had a couple brief conversations with Dave Chappelle various times around Yellow Springs. Friendly guy - funny - but I'm too often put off my his language on stage. He used to ride a custom Ruckus around YS, and some of his posse ride Kymcos into town from his house a couple of miles from village center. He gets his coffee from Dinos.....and once brought Bradley Cooper and Dave Letterman in there.

Not a concert venue, but my only claim to fame is that I once attended a house party in the Black Country (late 70's) where Robert Plant was drinking beer in the kitchen.  Too star-struck to speak to him, but I did stand in that kitchen for a long time.  Transpired later that the host & hostess, who I knew via a mutual friend, drank in the same local pub as Mr Plant, invited him on the off chance and were as surprised as the rest of the guests that he actually turned up.  Very down to earth guy.

That's cool Neil!
I recall a young Mex/American buck Sgt sharing his reaction when he found himself face to face with a 3-star general.
He said, "I didn't know whether to sheeet or go blind!"
He was a good guy - married w. 2 little ones. He gave us married trainees half a day extra w our wives on the week ends.
A few mos later we medevacked him one afternoon - the Army sent him for a 3rd tour in 'Nam. He recovered, shot through the glutes.

".....sheeet, or go blind!"  :)

strangely - wife never found that phrase to be humorous.
