Title: Ignition switch wiring 2009 Kymco People 150
Post by: Rodent on January 27, 2026, 12:47:49 AM
Hi, I’m newbie from Australia. I have a 2009 people 150. Thieves prised off front cover and reefed all wires off the ignition switch. 5 wires - red, black, black/white stripe, 2 green. Wondering whether anyone with a similar model could send photo of connections on rear of switch. Think I’ve got power(red), ignition(black) and kill switch(black/white stripe) in the right spots. Earths I can’t figure. Hope someone can help me. Have had it running on kickstart but nothing with electric start.

Welcome here!
Pls see att pics...maybe helps.

Its bit tricky, coz KYMCO mounted different models of ignition switches, which not always match the diagram.

See also... www.manualslib.com.      there should be your scoots wiring diagram in full and color.

Thanks for the responses so far, much appreciated. The problem with my situation is this. Schematic wiring diagrams usually show ignition switch as a bar with the 5 wires attached, normally as someone has mentioned with different colour coding. I have to determine which wire goes to which terminal on the ignition switch to ensure correct operation. The back of the switch has no identification whatsoever of the terminals. I know which wires go to the switch, they are all there. But which wires to which terminal? I could trial and error but imagine there would be a big risk of damaging other components? A photo, similar to the one Rufus sent through, of the same scooter would allow me instantly to see what goes where. Hopefully someone out there? The front cover has a centre bolt and 2screws coming forward into the cover, so very easy to remove. Thanks again for the replies.

Pinch points at switch ok?
-green (both) are ground
-red = battery plus
-black = switched plus
-black/ white = from/ to kill switch

Trial and error:
-put a "flying" fuse with frog clamps between red and switch during testing, so you waste at most a few fuses.
Use a test lamp between, sparks = wrong.

Ok, finally got hold of another People 150 up the coast, got it for $150 which is cheap here. Got it home, front cover off, exactly same setup as mine including wiring colours. Resoldered my switch to match and started first hit. Very happy. Thanks again for everyone's input. I'll send a photo of the switch wiring in case someone else has same problem.
