According to the ladies in the "alcohol?, have I.D. ready" queue behind me at the grocers....the world as we know it here in Ohio will be ending tomorrow night. I tend to trust seniors who drink - so I decided to take action this morning before the big snow comes tomorrow evening.
Yellow Springs and St Pete Beach are my two favorite places in the USA - and we can't go to Florida w/o asking her mother...so I suggested I drive my daughter and I to Y.S. for breakfast. (she said I make her nervous when she drives)
Sunny out but bitterly cold - w/ a decent wind that just won't quit blowing, for days now. Temp was in the teens, apparent temp below 0ºF - and one could feel every bit of it when out and about. Temp falling to 0ºF tonight with a killer snow storm predicted for days now - to start tomorrow night.
I picked up coffee from Dino's; daughter grabbed a table for us at the UnderDog and ordered a latte. Known as the village Living Room, the Dog is always busy on cold, snowy or rainy days.
I being older, she being younger - I sent her across the frigid street to get us hot breakfast sandwiches from the nice deli at Tom's Market.

We both enjoy the atmosphere in the UnderDog and its warm van Gogh yellow interior.
Come, sit, buy something or not, breakfasts until 11:00 - nurse a cup for hours while, socializing, studying or talking to your laptop, etc. While the guitars and a piano are to be played...barking and banjos are forbidden.

After breakfast my daughter wandered into a bookstore and I went across to get in a solid 45mins on the W. My daughter came across and helped her frozen pop up from his roost. Temp continued to drop and it was COLD in that wind.

Biggest snow in several yrs predicted - and dangerous temps around 0. My water pipes hope we don't lose power for too long. (have a new electronic pilot light water heater - so it will stop heating I think, w/o electricity)
Well, got in one more ride on Group W.

A bit concerned about daughter - she's starting to like these weird paintings....

I suspect the zoo in our neighborhood know all about the coming snow storm w/ frigid temperatures.
Wife put out two pans of hot water (it's 8? out there) and quite a bit of 'midwestern US' birdseed - plus black sunflower for the squirrels and Cardinals.
In any event I stood and watched the most amazing lot of creatures coming up to the back patio for this food.
Two different kinds of woodpeckers (a red -bellied and two downy), 4 blue-jays, Cardinals, 'snow birds', a chipmunk, a mix of 7 grey and black squirrels.
Snow starts tonight - I got up at 6 AM (1?) and went to the grocer's for eggs, coffee and milk.

Downy woodpecker...it is small

Google is amazing - describe the bird and where you live and up pops the picture!
I've never heard the word 'catastrophic' in a weather forecast. (referring to extended outages from the ice south of us)

Entertaining and nice shots Stig. Hope the heating stays on for you! (We had a power cut at 6C the other day so there'd be no hope for us :)))
