Title: first '26 ride was through a storm-front
Post by: Stig / Major Tom on January 09, 2026, 07:21:34 PM
Steady 24mph winds out of the SW kept things interesting but no more than that - then the rain front moved through for my final 1/3 of the ride!!
When I dismounted into a 'stream'! in Y.S. I backed up the weather radar to see that I'd ridden into this band.

I was concerned about (1) flood damage to the engine, (2) the wind blowing it over.
As always when a front moves through, it was howling! - and driving the rain straight into the side of the scoot like a fire hose.. (and me, on the Group W) The electrics?!...start and light switch?

Before the front caught me - it was a nice drizzly ride. Temps in the 50's.

I was pretty darn happy that my scooter started when it was time to head home!
Yeah, I know - it rains a lot in Asia where these things are made - still, I gotta quit stress testing this thing:-)

not sure if it was the same storm system...but we had a similar front blow through on Thursday afternoon with wicked winds and heavy rain. I can't even fathom riding in that kind of weather!! it appears you did. Do we change your title from Major to Naval Captain? Of the ship?

:) Well, truth be told - I didn't set out to ride through that excitement!
I saw rain coming - but the temps were too inviting - and once I'm in it there's nothing to do out there in the boonies. Dismount and stand alongside the road - I might get hit.
I've taken photos in a lot of pretty good rains while out on my scooter. But, it was blowing and raining sideways so hard I'd have needed one of those waterproof cases.....so - No pics until I got into the village and parked in that stream and got under the awning of Tom's market.

In the winter - a lot of times warming temps coincide with rain moving through.
