Some of the finest people I've ever met - were the nurses at Brooke Army Medical Center, Ft Sam Houston, TX, and at the 71st Evac Hosp in the central highlands of Vietnam.
It was good to see them get their own memorial in D.C., near the Wall.

While in medic training my first 2 experiences with the wounded from Vietnam were seeing the ambulatory wounded around grounds of the hospital in TX. BAMC was the burn center for the military.....so....
And later, we trainees rotated meeting Aeromedical Evacuation C-130's and C-141's bringing the wounded from Vietnam, on the runway of a nearby AFB, always in the dark of late night?, we carried them down the rear ramps and situated their litters in a bus - for transport to various medical wards at BAMC.
Nurses stabilized the wounded on these flights from Vietnam to the Philippines, Japan and the long 22 hr flight to the Texas.

The nurses served in relatively safe areas - relatively - 7 were killed in accidents or air crashes - and one by hostile fire. However, nursing young men so recently and severely damaged left its mark on many of these young women.

It was Armistice Day here too yesterday (Remembrance was last Sunday) and heartening to read services were better attended this year than for many years. I went to a simple open air service at our Village memorial garden where the entire Junior School attended. #LestWeForget
