Few months ago my wife came home with a low reading on the tire pressure gizmo on her car.
I found the small screw - removed it and patched it w/my handy mushroom shooter kit.
It did not work.
Once a month her dash light would come on again. I topped the tire up and planned to take it to a tire shop, "someday".
Well the ladies were out of town on vacation - they keep sneaking off w/only a note!
So took it to 3 tire shops for a proper tire-off patching.
"Nope."
They will not touch a tire which has been patched!
Well, the "Daryl & Daryl Live Bait and Tire Emporium" said they'd do it....but....
OK, so.... car is 10 yrs old w/ original Michelins.
But they look great!
Too bad - replace 'em in pairs I was always taught.
$772 later I walked out of my chevy dealer.....thinking, "OK, air up a low tire and take it to a tire shop from now on!"
This year I learned tires. Wife said next summer she'll teach me wines.

10 years ...you got your original money's worth out of those...or someone did...

I might have something like that in my left rear tire on my truck, haven't looked, just add air every 3-4 days, maybe 4 psi

Take it that's the litigious state of the USA Stig? Even if you've done a get you home plug a tyre shop here would still happily drill it out and put in a professional vulcunised repair. £20-25 job done.

One week after the two front Michelins were replaced at the Chevy dealer - the TPSystem symbol popped on the dash.
Asking for a read-out of the tire pressures returned 3 good and nothing from the L front. (I checked - tire had 37PSI in it)
So appointment made and back to the dealer.
I explained to the service tech that we have purchased 6 Michelins and 4 GoodYears recently - and I hoped they would give me some sort of customer discount on "whatever is coming next" when they check the TPM.
One hour and $270 lighter I was driving away with a new TPM on the wheel.
15 mins later the TractionControl light lit!
I returned to the dealer and he "re-set the parameters" and gave me a free oil & filter change.
I then drove straight to Tim Horton's and had a dark roast in the State Park.
So, @ one thousand dollars for two new tires.
