The other day a very weird thing happened to my AK550. I had parked for a couple of hours and when I cranked up the fan was immediately running, otherwise the engine was running fine. The fan stayed on until I reached my next stop, about 3 miles away. When I turned off the ignition, the engine continued to run but amost as if it was dieseling. It took three on-off cycles of the switch before the motor turned off. I've ridden the bike a dozen times since and it never reoccured. My theory is this...I didn't let the start up cycle complete and subsequently interruped the start sequence. Since then, I've been careful to let the fuel pump fully prime before starting. Anyone else experience this?

Nope. Haven't noted that behavior on the AK. Did experience the run-on with one other bike many years ago but never repeated there either and also once or twice with a car I had. I think I figured out that time was due to bad gas. These days I always try to use Top-Tier fuel if possible... 87 octane as required by the sticker in the storage box. Other countries show different octane numbers but all translate to the USA standard of 87 octane (PON). I've heard of using the wrong octane also causing something similar with an engine... not just motorcycles/scooters.
No clue what would cause the fan to be running instantly after turning on the bike... unless possibly the ambient air temp was really hot that day and the AK was sitting in the sun.

It was about 85 F that day, not super hot, but it was sitting in the sun so maybe the temp sensor was activated. Also, I have been running 93 octane gas so maybe that is part of it. The recommended octane is somewhat confusing due to the differing octane systems. On the fuel door, it simply says unleaded gas 95 octane. Even the owner's manual states "#95 unleaded gasoline". So, I'm curious how you came up with 87 octane, not that I doubt you. --Ken

There is a sticker inside the underseat storage box that gives a lot of info specific to USA models. The user manual and fuel door likely give the octane for Europe or Austrailia which is calculated differently.

my engine always shuts down with the side stand. Don't know as I have ever heard my fan come on, but I am always on the move and don't ride in urban environment
