Title: vanity of Vespa owners is humourous
Post by: Stig / Major Tom on November 14, 2024, 09:51:31 PM
There are regular posts from Vespa owners who complain about the ugly side reflectors on their Vespa.
Usually it is the owners of relatively newer models - say within the past 5 or 6 years.
Some remove them and then fret about the pair of holes left in the bodywork. There are posts on how to deal with these holes.
They complain that these reflectors serve no purpose - "especially if you never ride at night"!

Some remove the mirrors - again for appearance reasons. So many do this that there is now a supplier for the body-color buttons to plug the unsightly holes left in the scooter.

I was not surprised to read that some owners actually remove the turn-signals - again, for appearance reasons!

Oh, and therapy is needed - should one discover a slight discoloration in a small area of paint in the matte finishes!
Imagine the distress when one gets bumped over while parked in the city! The dented body-work is sometimes be declared totaled by the ins. co.

The rest of us are riding cheap, probably Chinese, junk, made of plastic.

If/when this gets reported to the Vespa forum I will be struck from their Secret Santa list.

the removal of safety equipment - reflectors and mirrors - amazes me. Many do it on motorcycles, too...

Your description of the pickiness of Vespa owners reminds me of new Honda (car) owners...we've been thinking about a new vehicle and I've browsed a few owner's forums...and the Honda Pilot forum has to be filled with the pickiest people in the world...their 'complaints' are so ridiculous that I wouldn't want to be associated with any of them!! I feel sorry for the people in the Honda service departments

😂 Seen lots of Piaggio (Vespas, etc) brought on trailers to rallys, even the (old) license plate indicates a home close as 50 kilometers.
Usually only HD owners do that (maybe could rain within a fourthnight or roads might be dusty).

I never understood flush mount turn signals, or even clear lenses w amber bulbs vs amber lenses w clear bulbs
