Hi all,
I had posted on this before about my 500Ri (09) blowing headlight bulbs and melting headlight plastic. I finally pulled the regulator/rectifier out. Under high throttle I was getting over 18vdc at battery. I'm fairly certain it's the regulator but would like to test it to be sure. My search on the matter always seem to find folks having too low a voltage, not too high. My regulator is the 5 wire, one plug is 3 yellow wires, and one is 1 red and 1 green wire. Is there a way to OHM it out to test. I don't have the diode test on my volt/ohm meter. I would also like to know if there is a better replacement model available other than a Kymco replacement. I did read this post from 6 years ago, but was hoping for some updated info. (https://www.kymcoforum.com/index.php?topic=25726.msg183317#msg183317) Thanks for reading.

@Scootmaster hi,
pls read into this posts below, same story.
You can take any reg/rec which is available for KYMCO on anybig platform like AMAZON , EBAY or else.
Any reg /rec will do, from YAGER, GRAND DINK, XC 250/400/500, price between 29,- to 35,- each.
Alternators in this motors are pretty much the same (300 W output).
With this voltage your reg is done for sure.
There is no easy way to check OHMs without opening, but its not worth the effort. If have a diagram but its complicated
(pls see pic) bc Kymco doesn't give data for its diodes, etc, so you have to interpolate to get values...
If some Qs, come back here to ask.
I know that a HONDA reg can be used but requires some changes and an additional ground. Willemdrop and CROSSBOLT elaborated on that already. IMHO nowadays better to take an aftermarket device.
