Title: Have you modified your scooter?
Post by: Stig / Major Tom on January 29, 2024, 01:32:55 AM
Pictures please!
I've done things to my scooters to please my eye, and to improve my safety, and to hopefully extend the life of my scooters (like ACF-50 applications and frequent oil changes).
I never wanted a top case on the Forza or the Burgman. Scooters were nice and sleek without that mushroom back there - plus the underseat was big and suited my needs!

What bike - tell us what you've done.

Made it faster?
Made it safer?
Made it handle better?
Made it louder?
More comfortable?
Maybe has had no real affect - didn't hurt anything but your wallet?
Wish you hadn't done it to your scooter?
Cosmetic change so you like the appearance better?

Me?
Faster. Nothing.

For safety - being a night rider - Variously on my scooters : I've added LED tail-light bars, a top case w/LED DRL's and brake lights, pulsing Tailblazer brake bulbs, Philips Motovision headlight bulb. Better mirrors on 3 of the 4.

Handle better. Better tires  (RR those scary Kendas on my LIKE after only 400 miles!) Dunlop, Michelin, Pirelli.

Louder? nothing.

Comfortable. Completely rebuilt a seat for the LIKE. Switched out tall stock screen on the Burgman (horrible head buffeting!) for short sport Ermax.

Didn't hurt but.... Dr. P's and Iridium NGK spark plugs, more expensive oil, SHELL Nitro gas.

Wish I hadn't. Sold the Forza.

Cosmetic changes. Crash bars on the LIKE. Blacked out the inside of the Forza screen to match the dark screens used in Euro/Asian markets. HONDA lettering, Forza. Reflective 3M stripe on Burgman side, the dark Ermax screen.

Stock 2014 Burgman 400 - horrible tall screen - buffeting is amazing!

Mine - with short Ermax screen (FR) no buffeting! , tailblazer bulb, red 3M reflective stripe, mirror stem extensions (U.K.)

2018 (MY), Piaggio Liberty 150i
The only thing I've done is added the Admore rear LED DRL/Brake-light bar, and the Piaggio custom color-matched top case, and OEM flyscreen.

Stig
Oh yeah - too much black for me on the Liberty "S" model - so I repainted the muffler cover gun-metal.

on previous S200...reflective rim tape and additional red tape on luggage rack and aftermarket top case (for nightime visibility, ironic, because I don't ride at night)..Dr Pulley sliders, led bulbs in taillight and turn signals, red silicone vacuum lines (looked cool) and installed working 'International market' led front turn signals and wired them up as running lights.

Helix - only added led head and tail lights and utopia backrest (for comfort).

For me:

Faster. Nothing.  I'd like to hold onto my licence, 85 mph is fast enough for me!

For safety - Better mirrors on all 3 I've owned!

Handle better. Better tyres again on all 3 predominantly Michelin City Grip 2s.  YSS aftermarket shocks on 2 out of three.  Worth the money.

Louder? Nothing.  (Edit:  Just remembered, I did put a Black Widow exhaust on my Honda PCX125.  Did nothing for speed, but did sound quite nice.)

Comfort. Nothing, although I almost committed to a seat remodel on the X-Town it was hard over 100 miles.

Wish I hadn't. Waited so long before getting my first scooter - they're a hoot!.

Cosmetic changes. None.

Nice throaty note Randy

not all that loud either, compared to tire noise, crickets & locusts, and my neighbor yelling at her son
