Title: Gus Wilso, Model Garage archive
Post by: CROSSBOLT on December 15, 2023, 01:48:45 AM
Here is a link of Master Mechanic stories spanning 1925 to 1970. I soaked most of these up as a kid from piles of Popular Science magazines and took the subtle principles to heart. It helped me understand the importance of learning how things worked to be able to actually diagnose and repair when not working as they should.

thanks, Karl, you may have just sent me down an endless rabbit hole of reading! (love some of the old school tricks that were needed on these older cars!)

Popular Science and Popular Mechanics were both regular reading. I built a couple different Popular Mechanics hydroplane designs, had a 15hp Evinrude, till I went out when I shouldn't have, they were meant for mirror smooth water, a slight ripple at most.  I was 14 or 15 at the time, the thought of 15hp bolted to a sheet of 3/8 marine plywood scares the hell out of me now, come to think of it, mighta been 1/4" plywood
