Title: Rear wheel not spinning freely on center stand
Post by: aschrauth on December 03, 2023, 01:04:40 AM
Hello everyone, been a while since I posted last. Hope everyone is having a good holiday season.

I was inspecting my tires today on my center stand and decided to spin the back tire and noticed something odd, the tire spins and stops halfway through it's rotation When the scooter is off Nothing is binding and the brake shoes are adjusted with enough clearance. When I start it the back tire does not spin, however when I manually spin it the tire spins then stops halfway. Could it be possible that I am needing a clutch shoe change? I am almost at 13,000km and the shoes are OEM. Other than this everything runs fine.

Good to hear from you, again! When your tire stops spinning, can you spin it again by hand or does it lock up? If it used to spin freely and now it doesn't, something is rubbing. I would open up my cvt case and have a look inside to start.

It is really weird, so when my scooter is on the center Stand if I spin the tire by hand it spins and then stops midway through its rotation. I am going out later and will try to take a video

Take a lamp and look at your brake disc from down behind.
Is it warped?
Someething on it?
Dirt/wood/ice between wheel and frame/wheelhugger?

Ride the scoot for a couple of 100 meters, let left brake "slide", check again thereafter.
No change?
Follow hawks suggestion.

Stops suddenly or somewhat gradually?
Maybe just a bit of clutch/CVT drag. That would be normal unless it is different than before on this same scooter.

At idle tire does not spin, then when you push it, it spins part of a rotation. No binding when not running.
Sounds like perfectly normal behavior from a scooter which is driven by a rubber belt, pullies and a clutch.
You certainly can pop the belt cover off and watch it work to confirm.

I took the splash shield off and inspected the wheel with a flashlight, Nothing was rubbing. Stupid question but I think my balancing beads might have something to do with it.

"Balancing beads" inside your scoots tire?
Pls check your tire for a bulge!

Rotate slowely by hand, terminate point of stopping, wheel should turn freely all the time (motor off) if no throttle on it.
