Title: Battery Tender on AK550
Post by: Snuffleuppagus on August 21, 2023, 06:30:55 PM
Has anybody had any problems with a battery tender blowing out the electronics in the AK550?  Normally, when charging a battery in ANY vehicle with a computer, you should disconnect the battery to keep ripple voltage and surging from attacking the electronics.  Most of the time, chargers don't have filtration to keep RFI and induced currents from riding the power to the battery.

Seems like the only way to use a tender would be to have a VERy high amperage switch installed on the positive side of the battery that can switch between the existing red power to the scooter and the tender.

I think you're trying to invent a problem, as soon as I park, I plug into an 800 milliamp Deltran Battery Tender

Maybe you are thinking of battery CHARGERS vs a Battery Tender or battery maintainer. The former can be trouble with sensitive electrics on modern bikes... especially if left plugged in for very long. The latter, especially the Battery Tender brand, have built in electronics to prevent problems with bike or car electrics and are designed with programming to alter the charging profile enabling them to be plugged in continuously and indefinitely.

Never had a problem with mine.
