Title: Adjusting Valves on B&W 250 Advice?
Post by: perton on July 31, 2023, 08:00:41 AM
Hi all.
If a hose is connected to the valve cover, do I have to remove it, or can I tie the body out of the way and leave it connected? Also, what side cover do I remove to turn the shaft with the wrench? I've heard you should only turn the shaft one way. Is that true?

I'll offer my 2 cents...with a hose connected to head cover /valve cover you can do either, keep it attached or remove it. I usually remove any hoses, it just seems to be a little easier.

Since your scoot is liquid cooled you lack the plastic nut on the fan on the right side for easy turning..I guess another option would be to remove your cvt cover and turn your variator nut counter clockwise (turn nut toward front of scoot or direction scoot travels).

You do only want to turn your engine the same way it rotates. If you don't the world won't end...but always best to rotate in the correct direction.

@perton welcome here!
As  hawk said, turning clock-or counterclockwise does at tapping valves not a huge difference, only if you install a new distribution chain or doing a motor service it might change your ignition  timing a few degrees off.

For Q-2.: pls see pic
-open this big alu nut in the middle, a big washer might do the trick
-don't worry, no oil will spill
-don't harm or lose this o-ring
-take a 17mm socket and turn CLOCKWISE
-tap valves as usual

Good luck.
