Title: No up hill power half trottle puzzle
Post by: GoVanGo on May 27, 2023, 01:43:45 AM
Fixed thanks all for the suggestions.    Its always the simple things that I think wouldnt
be the issue .   Was Fuel Filter .      Reason I wasnt thinking filter , I could still hit 40 mph so
I was thinking something else.   Today when I was going to my local scoot parts shop I wasnt even
hitting 20 mph going downhill and it was really bogging.   Limped to the shop got my filter on
and boom full trottle response again and no uphill issues.   I also still put in a new iridium spark plug
since I read here its a good thing .     So thanks again,  Im still going do valves and oil change and other things suggested.
cheers

Edit : I think I confused the issue with extraneous info.    I should just ask
"what causes trottle to do nothing past halfway "   thats the question

So last month got a 2014 Agility 125. Scooted me uphills pretty good for this engine size
and my weight.   After few days of riding it was starting to run slower in that
when going uphill , half throttle was it , going from half to wide open didnt change anything as far
as revs or power.
I replaced the belt to the correct size but not OEM belt.   Now on straights its way smoother but
still no power going up hill compared to last month.
I did a carb clean , still no change.
One change is old belt was 18mm new one is 20 mm so 2 mm diff in width.
Should I be looking at variator weights or something else?
Does the new belt just need to be broken in more?
I'm puzzled also old biker that just got into scooters.     Got a 50cc 3 months ago a ZX50 and loved it so much got this 125 .     Also looking at 250s to 300s next.
cheers

wanted to add  ,  first day of getting this on a particular straight I hit 48 mph using Gps.
Now I only hit 44 on same straight.     I was trying to break the 50 mph mark not go backwards.

How many km's does it have?

Does the engine sound the same as before?

17000 KM ,   engine sound the same idling or going uphill or?
I havent notice any change ,   there was a slight exhaust leak but I put
on new gasket so thats quieter

@GoVanGo welcome here!
Since it worked before I would just try the old belt again to see a difference. This two millimeter raises my suspicion.
Then I would look at rollers, etc.

Thank you Ruffus.    I was having this issue with the old belt thats why I went with new one.
However it was only with the old belt when I first got this where it was going uphills much better at first then it stopped being good uphill.
Also at first I was getting full range with the throttle , only recently anything past half throttle doesnt do anything.

I'm guessing there's a problem with the clutch/CVT system.

But also don't overlook the small things. Can it use an oil change?

What's the spark plug look like?

I suggest using this:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000HDIP9I/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And also recommend only using OEM parts, especially for a belt.

Is it getting harder to start?

Underseat bucket out and check throttle cable for exact function (leeway or not).
Like said before, check airways (airfilterhose off)

Pls sit on your scoot, start, pull both breaks and open throttle.

Do this for about 10 seconds, then pause, now again for 10 seconds.
Don't worry if it starts smelling.

Make a test ride.
Better YES /NO
Check, if you have tools at hand, your rollers.
Tell us what happens.

Interesting thread. I am thinking something simple like air filter and throttle cable too, but maybe just a clogged fuel line as well. Old bike may have dislodged some gunk out of bottom of fuel tank that plugged up line. Keep at it. I inherited a 2002 vino with bad gas. I siphoned old out and after filling fired right up.

I would change the fuel filter first, and also have a look at the air filter.
You can also remove the spark plug, and “read” the condition of the spark plug. If the spark plug  looks wet or has black soot it means the fuel does not burn properly. This can be caused by a clogged air filter or incorrect valve clearance settings.
So I think you probably have a look at valve clearance settings as well.

you said you'd cleaned your carb...did you totally disassemble it and clean everything? I doubt it's your problem but the main jet controls throttle from about 60% - 100%...your jet needle and throttle butterfly also have some part in this party..they all need to be clean, reassembled properly and functioning correctly.

Other than that make sure variator and rollers/sliders are good, new belt, check clutch for pad glazing and overall function..did you install your belt correctly? Many don't get it seated far enough in the driven pulley and then you can't tighten you drive pulley correctly.

Thanks for the tips , will be doing most of that even though  filter was the problem
And I just watched a video last night about that belt and drive pulley issue, I didnt know that
so have to re check mine .

so it was a clogged filter? Air or fuel?
