I see maybe one scooter in my town each year.
This morning I was walking my pup at the reservoir when a softly purring Burgman went by.
I wondered, "did my Burgman 400 sound like that?...so quiet!"
Later I tracked him down and we had a nice long chat about scooters, dealers, etc.
It is a 2023 Burgman 200 ABS, in matte blue. His scooter is 4 days old!
Has 150 miles on it.
His riding Hx includes a Burgman 650, couple of HD's, a Helix, some Silverwings, and 3 of those 3 wheel things - I forget the name.
He likes everything about his new Burgman except the seat and the matte finish.
It is wide - he is short. (the Burgman 200 has a weirdly huge seat on it!)
Anyway it was nice to chat scooters with somebody!
He looked skeptical when we were talking lighting and I mentioned that lighting is very important to me "because every one of my rides starts in the dark!"....and 7 of the last 8 have been in the rain.
He 's one of those riders who never rides in the rain or the dark.
Nice guy though!

PS: he's added foam grips, a $150 throttle lock gizmo and that "worthless" $150 add-on deflector on top of his screen.
The battery is under your right foot!
He "paid $6000"...I didn't ask if this was OTD, but I think it was the OTD price.

what actual size motor does a Burgman 200 use? (I'm guessing it's not a true 200cc?...kind of like how Kymco calls our 163cc's a 200)

No, they're true 200 and 400 cc's. (though I thought I read years ago that my 400 was actually a 399)
350 and 489lb, respectively.
The 200 is not a 400 with s smaller engine. The scooter is scaled down from rnd to end.
Joe said it easily cruised at 65 with his 210lbs on board.
He made me sit it. Found it a touch cramped.
Well made scooter, from Japan, he said. Kind or a rare thing, that.

Each to his own I s'pose Stig, but considering the lines of the 400 Burgman, this looks fugly by comparison. As you say though, nice to chat to a fellow scooterist!

Out of respect for the new owner...I didn't ask if he'd looked at Kymco, where his $5K would have bought him 75 more cc's.

the width of the seat is the primary thing about my AK550 that I don't like, the matte finish I don't mind

The B200 is a true 200 and performs very well for a 200. Several years ago a B200 rider rode from the Florida Keys to Niagara Falls, 1500 miles in less than 36 hours. It was nearly all interstate riding. That is very impressive for a 200. That ride is a very interesting story. My second scooter was a 2015 Burgman 200. The weight is actually good at about 362 pounds. The motor is a very short stroke, 69 mm bore and 54 mm stroke design, so it uses a lot of rpm. At start where it doesn't move till it has a couple thousand rpm. It got reasonable good mpg for my riding. The seat height is very low about 28 inches, and didn't work well for me. My wife loved the big passenger seat. Has a huge under seat storage. As I like to do my own valve adjustment and minor maintenance I found to get to the valves required about half the body plastic to be removed. I think it is an OK choice if it fits you. This can also be said for the Downtown 300i that I have. As far as working on them, the Kymco is so much nicer to maintain.

Yeah - my mind, as it always does eventually - wandered to "can he get to the valves in that baby?"
I didn't spot any "easy access" panels - so I thought maybe it's simple via under seat?
In my 10 yrs of reading scooter forums (Honda, Kymco, Burgman and now Vespa) it is my impression that few owners check their valves.
