Title: NSR: going to Delaware shore - places not to miss?
Post by: Stig / Major Tom on March 07, 2023, 05:37:12 PM
Not putting our aging pup through a kennel experience this year - so no flight to Florida for the 1st time in 15 yrs.
Driving from Ohio with dog, to the Atlantic along Delaware. So - at least we'll have the ocean!
I spent a lot of time in the Atlantic as a kid in Florida - "thanks mom!"
Anyone have recommendations for sightseeing?
Booked a condo 2 miles from the coast, Rehoboth/Lewes beach area.

Suggestions?
Thanks, Stig

* truth be told - I had trouble finding Delaware on a map of the USA.....thought maybe it was a city....

She is the reason we're not flying to Florida.....

(not her best look here - she's on my knee watching my daughter practice her new mud facial on me. Didn't work. I still see a few wrinkles.)

Drive south about 75 miles to Assateague.  Wild horses and undisturbed seashore. (I lived in Newark Delaware for 35 years prior to moving back to Tennessee).

Cute photo Stig.  Don't blame you for not kennelling pup, she deserves all your time at this stage in the relationship.  Non-dog owners may not understand it, but we do.

You're killin' me.
Too true.
(we dropped pup for a trim at a nat'l pet store - then went for breakfast in Y.S. this morning. Daughter said I shouldn't be so stressed - I replied , I'd be "less concerned if I'd dropped her off for a trim!"
Kids. no end to the worry :)

Air Mobility Command Museum at Dover Air Force Base   https://amcmuseum.org/
Free museum at Dover Air Force Base. Lots of historic planes to explore. Free.

Cape Henlopen State Park                https://destateparks.com/Beaches/CapeHenlopen
State park with fishing pier, beaches, disc golf, WWII triangulation towers, military gun emplacement, plenty of walking trails. Be wary of ticks.

Restaurant in Rehoboth has a pretty diverse menu and some brews only available there. The brewery and tasting room in Milton has some unique brews, bocce courts, and a steampunk treehouse.

Easter Shore is great. Lived here for 40 years. Dover museum is great as well as Delaware WWII towers and Assateaque. Also check out Wallops Island Launch Facility to see if any launches are happening. Have seen flights to the International Space Station a few times. Also Fort Delaware is fun but does not open until End of April and of course the Ocean City board walk for salt water taffy. Enjoy your stay! Brian.
