I ride straight up & down, not a corner carver. Last year I put a Shinko tire on the back of my 500. It's pretty thin after 6K miles, and it cost about 80 bucks. So I ordered a new tire & it arrived yesterday at my dealer so I picked it up. It looks like a real mean piece of rubber, it's a Michelin City Grip tire. I went for that specifically because so many scooter guys swear by it. But it was considerably more money and I'm wondering if I'm likely to get good life out of it.

I swear by CG's for my SYMs, but on the 500 I'd double check to make sure the weight range is correct for the heavier bike.
Far as wear goes, this will vary by a variety of factors.
I got 10k+ on one rear before it took a nail and busted a cord, but that's on a lighter bike so YMMV.
I used to get 7-8K on Shinko rears on my burgman. More on the Michelin but not enough to justify the cost difference.
Looking forward to how this works out. I kinda watch for AK550s among other bikes for when my SYM ages/miles out.

22,000 from Pirelli Diablo
15,000 to 20,000km from Pirelli Diablo Rosso (softer compound)

Try Heidenau. I also like Michelin Power Pure SC---they wear round. Got well over 10,000 miles from one on return trip from Alaska!

my AK550 came with Metzler FeelFree, I like em so far, but 2 months and less than 1K doesn't tell much

There is more to consider than tread life when I choose a tire....cars and scooters.
Kendas often wear like iron, but.......commuting 365 in all weathers.... I got them off before they had gone 500 miles.

Kendas are what is on my K-Pipe, and I'm looking for something to replace, they are getting on the thinner side, and never liked em much to begin with, Think I'm gonna go with a Pirelli MT75, limited choices in K-Pipe sizes

Randyo, that's what I've been running for years on my S200. When I bought my scoot the rear tire was a Pirelli MT75 and the front was the factory..Kenda? It had a weird tread pattern and I don't like mismatched tires so I replaced the front with a matching MT75.
While I don't put a lot of miles on, the tires have shown very little wear over a few thousand miles and they do grip well, as I tend to push the scoot hard. I believe they may be discontinued, though?

that is the impression I have, but vendors are still advertising them

City Grips have worked great on my smaller scooters but only lasted 3800 miles on the back of my Yamaha Majesty. However I tend to wear out tires quickly. Even Metzler Feel Free's only last a little over 5,000 miles on my Majesty

Sounds about par for the course Klav. I’m happy with 5K on a rear with maybe 50% more on the fronts? Favouring City Grip 2s at the moment.

I put it on yesterday, it was a bit of a fight as I am almost one armed with a torn rotator cuff. It's City Grip 2, and I shall see how it goes.
