Title: mid / late season mileage check
Post by: Iahawk on August 29, 2022, 10:21:03 PM
OK, how many miles have you ridden so far this season?

My total is disappointing..not sure why it's so low..but work, life, family seem to get in the way..

Honda Helix 505 miles (812 km)
Kawasaki Ninja 300 352 miles (566 km)
Kymco People S200 329 miles (529 km)

Total so far: 1,186 miles (1908 km)

per my riding app: avg ride this season = 56 minutes and 24 miles.

How about you?

Done roughly 1,500 on the X-Town this year , but only about 200 on the Triumph! Speaks volumes as to the more usable / practical ride?

I don't keep track of mileage...except for servicing interludes.
Riding less this summer now that I'm a taxi 3 weekdays a week, at 6:45AM....
So, twice a week for total of 95/100 miles.
Pup and scooter both are 365 - road conditions permitting.
I unfailingly alternate scooters.

I track mileage when doing anything to the bikes..but my main mileage track is the end of season oil change before they are parked for the dark winter months. So it's easy to compare current mileage vs mileage at last oil change!

and Neil - I agree with a scoot being easier, more comfortable...my Helix is my most comfortable, easiest ride, hands down.

I track my mileage every month.  I guess it's a habit I picked up as a pilot where every flight is tracked.  It's not the end of the month yet so this is an estimate:

Versys:  3100
Majesty: 1100
KLX250:  1800
Like 150i:  2400
ADV150:  1400

So that's around 9800 so far this year.  I expect to be around 15,000 by the end of the year.  The reason I have so many miles on the Versys is because I just got back from a 6 day trip.

I've put about 1500 miles on my K-Pipe, and 500 on my AK550 I bought 3 weeks ago

Two forums I am on has a mileage tracker for members to record their miles during the year, so I am accustomed to recording that info after every ride. Well, almost every ride. Really short rides of less than 10-20 miles I might not record it but I do after two such short rides.
So far this year, since Jan 1, I've gone only 4695 miles on the AK. So far I'm on track for an average year for me after retirement.

I used to ride to work so I thought my annual miles would drop just a little without those miles. I do make up those lost miles by riding for fun locally... 30-60+ miles usually... as well as adding 2 longer distance camping rides I didn't go to before I retired due to lack of time off to attend them.
In 2020 I had 8228 miles and in 2021 I had 7212 miles. I retired in mid 2019. Those years are about my average per year. This year I might be a little under my average.

Just turned 600 on my 1-year-old X-Town 300. Hope to vastly improve on that next year.

Mine's just coming up (next month) for its third birthday & 8,500 miles which might be a good point at which to knock out some sort of long-term owner's report?

Klav - that's an impressive amount of miles spread over an impressive number of bikes!

My best year ever was about 35,000 miles back in the 80's when I used my bike (at the time a 900 Daytona triple) for work and it took me all around the country!  Happy days.

I thought that once I retired I would ride a lot more miles but I have stayed around 15,000 miles per year.  While I go out and ride a lot I don't put in the kind of mileage per day that I used to.  400-700 mile days used to be common for me but now I rarely ride over 300 miles in a day.  I did do around 450 miles in a day recently but that's pretty unusual for me these days.

What I can say is that these days I'm more interested in Quality vs Quantity on my rides.  I rarely spend time just droning on the interstate for more than a short period of time.

there was a few years, I was clocking 35,000-40,000 miles a year on 2 wheels. I put 135,000 on my SV650 in just 3½ years

I was still working then, using my bike for business errands, there was a couple years I claimed over $15k in motorcycle mileage

fwiw, as of July 1, 2022, IRS allows a 60½¢/mile deduction for motorcycles

I was thinking the same thing. But it seems the miles I now ride for fun simply replaced some of the miles I used to ride for the commute to work. And the rest are made up for by adding a few more motorcycle camping trips farther away. Like 500-650 miles away (2 days) rather than the trips that I've always take that are only 250-300 miles away one way.

I’m actually surprised that I am not far off what I thought my mileage we be at at this stage of the riding season ~1900 miles.

Just looking over the trips I have planned for the remaining camping season it looks like I'll add another 1700 miles, about, to what I have so far. And based on the riding I normally do otherwise for the rest of the year I'll likely end up with somewhere around 7500 miles for this year. Maybe. Depending on the weather during November and December and how much white stuff we get during that time. This close to my annual average for the last 10 years or so.
