Gets opened every decade or so.....

Trusty worn-out Zippo and my 2 pair of sharp German-made bandage scissors.
Some REMF clerk tried to take the scissors away from me while out-processing.
Things got tense.....until a Sgt with a couple of 'hearts interceded.

Stig I got stuff secreted all around my garage and elsewhere! The wife keeps telling me to clear it out, but I can't bring myself to do it. Somewhere in there I have an 18ct gold hallmarked medal my Dad won for cricket in 1937, but haven't seen it for over 20 years now! One day I really must sort through it all.

good to see you still have your military mementos, you wouldn't believe how many end up at junk shops. My GF has a collection of em she has bought for a couple bucks, some of em with cigar boxes, anything in a cigar box, my GF buys, just for the cigar box

Nope, only thing I kept out of my Navy seabag was the peacoat. I wore it for another ten years and then it went to the Goodwill.

I’ve got my pea coat and watch cap. The pea coat hasn’t been worn since I left Great Lakes boot camp. The watch cap is worn every winter when I am shoveling snow. I also have my seabag. It has been perfect for storing 2 sleeping bags.

Had. All lost now. But I got sea stories that will never be lost!

Recently had to go in search of my DD-214 to obtain my veteran's discount at Home Depot.....That was some adventure!
Found it in the envelope containing my birth certificate/naturalization papers from my German birth to American parents.
Thing looks like the Magna Carter...about 26" long! mimeographed on slick paper a thousand years ago, and fading - with rusty staples! (people ask why I didn't I learn German from my parents. "Well Mom is from KY and Dad is from OH - they had accents, but it wasn't German!")
