I just bought a kymco people 300i and i was wondering if yall knew anything about this specific issue . Upon turning of the key, the steering bar screen lights up and boots - however , if any ignition is attempted , the entire system shuts down - no attempt at firing up, no engine noise, just a blackout - any assistance would be appreciated [[[as a side, can a differing scooter electrical settup be used to power the 300cc motor ? - say -- a 50cc ruckus electronics settup]]] cheers

@Sableye667, welcome here!
Reading your attempt, I would try to jumpstart from a car battery (car not running), to see if it is maybe a battery issue.
If it starts, okay, charge battery or renew.
If NO start, check minus cables from battery to your starter motor and connectors to frame for corrosion or loose.
Both ways a nogo, we have to dig further.
Feel free to ask ....

I am with Ruffus on this one. Loose battery cable at the battery and/or the skinny red wire that powers everything else besides the starter.

Yep - I've seen a loose main ground on a Toyota do some really cool things in the dash when key turned on - then all goes dark when ignition tried and gives a 'no-start'.
Tightened the ground - off an running!

If the cables look good, try a load test.
I had a defunct battery that'd light things up exactly as you describe, & in fact would do anything but start the bike.
I'd heard a pop so figured something was up, so ran the test and sho 'nuff has apparently shorted some cells.

Seems a decent how to on that if ya haven't done that before.

Agree with the above advice. Bad battery or weak connection. Jumping the battery successfully will tell you it's a bad battery and you need a new one.
