Title: 200i Electrical Problem Headlight Voltage Drop
Post by: -kp- on February 17, 2022, 02:26:10 AM
Greetings,

I picked up a 2013 Like 200i project that is rough n ready, however it has an electrical gremlin.  I'm stuck!!! Usually I can grind these issues out but not this time.  Here is what I know:

-With the headlight unplugged the scooter starts no problem.  New battery 230cca bigger battery upgrade.

-With the headlight plugged in the voltage drops to 10.5v (full 12.6 at the battery).

-I unplugged every light, relay, horn, bar switches, main harnesses to search for the voltage to return to the headlight and nothing.

-Tested the ground, 12.6+v from positive battery terminal to chassis/horn...all is good, no voltage drop.

-checked chassis grund and starter ground, all is good, nice and tight no corrosion.

The wiring diagram shows a kick stand switch but I can't find it.  (I have the cyclopedia manual)

CELP goes from solid red to 3 flashes during fuel pressurizing then blinks twice (low voltage..makes sense)

-tried a different bulb (higher watt) and the same issue.

-initialized the scooter just because

What am I missing?

The LIKE200i does not have a kick stand lockout (,in spite of what owners manual says)
There is a tip over lock out.
4AM here, let me think about it after I find some coffee!

@-kp-, welcome here.
Had an interesting issue with one of my LIKEs.
Pls see link,
maybe helps. In this case the ground cable was internally destroyed by corrosion.
Another culprit might be one of your handlbar switches (corrosion). RH switch intiates LH switch via relay.

LIKEs have, like most of our motorcycles pretty thin cables, pls check your charging socket within glove compartement and around relais for corrosion.

Thank you both for the information.  I ordered a dimmer switch, the ohm readings were a bit erratic.  The drain is on the positive circuit so it seems like a good place to start.  I'll repost back if it fixed it.

Killed by the kill switch.  It tested fine, but would fail under load.  Switch shortages can be a pain.  Grounding issues are so much easier to find and diagnose.

An embarrassing amount of time was spent, but it's fixed now so that's worth a 🍺

Absolutely 💯 👍!

As my old 1st Sgt used to say , "That's one in a row!"
