Title: Best waterproofing for leather gloves?
Post by: Stig / Major Tom on January 02, 2022, 08:47:31 PM
Any suggestions of what has worked for you?

I ride in cold rains - so I'd like to protect my battery heated gloves from the wet.
I'm not sure there is something that will work all that well on leather in a steady rain.
I tried some 'waterproof snowmobile' gauntlets ....that got soaked through during my 1 hr ride in a cold rain. (I think they meant that they'd work in the snow....)

Rubber chemical gloves over the heated gloves? I know some riders who do that.
My Gerbing heated leather gloves are waterproof and do really well in rain, but I've never had them in heavy rain lasting a long time. I guess your snowmobile gloves are not like that.

Try Aerostich 3 finger over mitts----they work for me.

Best waterproofer for any leather, imho, Sno-Seal,  https://www.atsko.com/sno-seal-wax-8-oz-jar/ (https://www.atsko.com/sno-seal-wax-8-oz-jar/)
compound that is primarily beeswax

Thanks I will look into that stuff.
It's a bit tricky, because I'll be wiping my face shield for the entire ride with whatever is on my glove.....and my vision will already be a bit compromised from fogging and water...Oh, and darkness :)

Thought about that. But my heated gauntlets are 3XL, so pretty tough to find anything that will go over those things.

I always use Renapur which sounds a lot like this. Needs regular reapplication though.

Bought a can of Nikwax Glove Proof......to try.
Then I read in the microscopic print on back of the can ,"Not for use on visor wipe"

wonder what that means....

yeah that's what I'm thinking. Not going to use that stuff.
More likely to be dealing with snow rather than rain for the next couple of months
