Title: Rush Hour in Huntsville.
Post by: klaviator on December 16, 2021, 04:24:08 AM
Coming back into Huntsville from a ride today right at rush hour.  I snapped a few pics while riding my Majesty.

@Klav, colors are exceptional but traffic frightens me a little bit. I for ME  would put riding there on attempt of suizide.😄

Compared to most big cities riding through Huntsville is a piece of cake.  I moved to Huntsville from the Atlanta area.   In Atlanta rush hour traffic is 8 lanes of bumper to bumper traffic.

Agreed.  That's an "only do it if you have to" setting for riding for me these days.  Give me the twisty roads and open countryside every time.

I was coming back from a ride in the country.  My choices where to ride the interstate highway or stop and go city traffic.  The Interstate was both much faster and safer.

Some pics from earlier in the day.

Guess I'm simply not used anymore to such a traffic.
Living here in a hamlet of 1500 souls, little off main route, gets you forgetful.

Love those blue skies Klav. It’s been dull, grey weather here for days now.

My wife and I just got back from visiting our son in the Atlanta area.  The traffic there makes Huntsville seem like a sleepy little town in the country.  I'm so glad I don't have to deal with that traffic all the time.

While we do have dull grey weather here some of the time, overall I am really happy with the weather here.  Year round riding weather and plenty of sunshine to go with all the great roads we have around here.  There's a reason I chose to settle down here after having lived in 10 different states and all four coasts.

"Four coasts?  East, West and South I get, but does the USA have a northern coast?!

The Great Lakes.  I lived in Ohio and Michigan.

Interesting, never heard the reference to a 4th coast...

Cheating!
Does remind me of an epic ride I did in the 80's with some buddies though.  We had something here called the "Four Corners" where you visited each compass point on mainland Britain.  To spice it up, we added the two furthest points apart by road (to be done non-stop) and did it all for the MS Charity here.

If you ask the average Brit to name the furthest point E, W, N & S I'd be amazed if they could get more than 2 right.  To save you Googling it, in order it's Lowestoft, Ardnamurchan Point, & Dunnet Head Lizard Point.  Furthest apart by road?  Land's End to John O' Groats the traditional distance by road being 874 miles.  That leg took us just a few minutes over 20 hours if memory serves me well.

I don't think most Americans could name the furthest N, E, S and W states without googling it.  When my son was in 5th grade his teacher asked that question and he answered it correctly but she told him he was wrong.

I can recite most of that Johnny Cash song that he sang in Folsom Prison. You know for what it's worth.....
