Title: Time Zone?
Post by: mrmike on October 25, 2021, 01:06:12 PM
Just curious as to from which time zone this forum posts. Whenever I make a post  it is listed with a completely different time than where I am posting from. Where does this forum originate from?

Mine go in at Eastern Time, and are shown to be entered at Eastern Time.

Oops, forgot to mention we're +1 hr at the moment for BST British Summer Time.  Does that mean the Forum clock is showing GMT?  Glad you raised this, I've often wondered.

In my profile, I see this....

Time Offset:
Number of hours to +/- to make displayed time equal to your local time.
-4
 (auto detect)
Current forum time: October 25, 2021, 01:45:08 PM

there's also some launch codes stored there...... :)

I see everyone's posts as if they posted from within MY time zone!

Must be that time zone setting in my profile settings. I think when I first joined the time zone was off so I fixed that.

I missed the launch codes. I'll have to go look again...

good answers, all! Yes, the forum doesn't know from which time zone you are coming from...so you must enter your zone as part of your profile settings.

I didn't see a setting for this If this follows the pattern of most forums it'll be based off your computer's time.
It's all just an illusion in some respects.  The interwebs actually runs on GMT, but sites have long since been masking that really for the benefit of all despite occasional confusion.
To check this, I used a couple different browsers and this site while messing with my time setting.
So I'm in Pacific time normally, but set it out a bit and got this

OHIO gets a new license plate.......ooops

Honest mistake I guess - unless you're from Ohio.

vs. this

I have found most forums I am on don't look at my computer time to adjust for local time to me. I have to go into my profile settings, then modify profile look and layout and there is the settings for the time and date format and also for time offset from GMT.

Several forums I am on have a similar setup in the user profile.

Thank you for the input. I changed my profile, and now my posts reflect the time I posted them.
