So I finally go around to putting in some lighter rollers this weekend.
Went with 5 gm and will give that a shot for a week to see how I like it. Seems like I might go up to 5.5 gm based on my first impressions, but will see how it goes through the week.
The impact wrench made it all very easy - glad I went with the el cheapo from Harbor Freight, make life much easier.
-
im sure you well be happy with 5 but I like 5.5 that extra .5 just gives me what I like on how I ride my scoot. it gives me some what faster take off and the top end is good.
-
Yeah blue, that's the issue, I want that quicker take off since I am always having to stop and start due to the roads I ride. But I don't want to lose too much top end.
I am definitely getting that jump off the line, but after that it seems like the acceleration just isn't quite there.
Of course, I am running the stock air box so there are mods I can make to help with that. I think next weekend I'll try the 5.5 gm weights and see if that is the 'sweet spot' for me.
-
im running the stock air box and on any good day with no wind I can get her up to 48 to 50.but remmber to keep air in your tires as well. if I do any more mods it would be the 70 kit .but my scoot is already old so a new scoot would be better.
-
I'd like to go with a new scoot as well - 2 stroke to be sure.
Wife put an end to that idea....
In any event, going with a free-flow air filter and upjetting would give me more top end, so that might be my next idea.
Then again, with winter coming, I probably don't need to be worrying about going much faster.

how come we let the ladys in are life control us like that mmmmmmmmmmm-------lol

Probably a good thing anyway - I'd be surrounded by scooters and big screen TVs.
Still, I think I'll go order some stuff from Harbor Freight - just to show that I'm not emasculated...

lol go for it spent some of that man money we work so hard for. matbe ill go buy some tools just because. I do need a impact.
-
Oh yeah, you need that impact wrench - and some metric impact sockets to go with it.
And I've been meaning to get a torque wrench as well...

o ya my shopeing back is geting bigger.im only 3 miles away from harbor freight
-
If you live that close you can't afford not to buy some more tools.
Maybe some calipers to check and see how far those roller weights have worn down.
-
keep it up and ill let you talk to my wife and you can tell her its all your idea for shopeing for new tools.
lol not I wont tell .
-
That's okay, I told my wife that buying a new scooter was Word's idea.
So when we all get together one day to ride, our spouses can get together and blame each other for all the money we spent on this stuff....

that would be fun to watch. its been a while sense I seen a good cat fight.
-
Except they would probably just confirm the fact that it is, indeed, us that is the real problem.
Then we wouldn't have anyone else to blame....

I'm going to have to get me one of those nice little tachs so I can see what's going on with these different roller weights.
Oops....just added another thing to the 'need to buy list'.
-
my list is so big I ran out of papper. but back to the main subject get the dr pullys sliders
-
Once I settle on the weight I'll definitely look into them. Seems to be no contest that they work best.
I hear that they can be a challenge to install though.
You have any experience with using them on your scoot?
-
not yet But I have road scoots that have theam in it and you can tell the dif . the take off is a little smoother but yet fast and the top end gets you there faster.
-
Sounds like I should pick up a set.
Starting to get a better feel for the 5 gm rollers - liking how easy it makes getting up to speed on hills, but I can't help but wonder how 5.5 gm rollers would work.
Guess there's only one way to find out!
-
How's it going with the rollers there, oswaldters? You likin' the change? Settle on a nice weight yet??
-
Yes, after a couple of weeks of testing, I've settled on 5 gm weights. Decided to go with the Dr. Pulley sliders at 5 gm.
Makes a huge difference for me off the line. Wish I had a tach to see what was going on - but it certainly sounds like I'm getting lots more revs right off the bat and going up hills is much easier.
-
Wow, that's awesome. Glad to hear it. That extra power going up hills is also a plus!!
I had a line on a cheaper tach that had great reviews, but I lost all my bookmarks...sorry. :(
-
Thanks - I know which one you are talking about and it is on my wish list!
-
Great, if you get one before I do let me know how you like it and I will do the same. :)
-
It's the Trail Tech TTO Tach/Hour Meter.
Sold at a bunch of places including Amazon.
Here is the link to the manufacturer's site: http://trailtech.net/tto_tach-hour.html (http://trailtech.net/tto_tach-hour.html)

Yeah...no...I meant another one...lol
-
Hey, oswaldters, it's been more than a month now...how ya likin' them Dr. Pulley Sliders? You said they seemed like they made a big difference at first. Is that still so??
-
I do like the sliders over roller weights.
They seem smoother to me, but I can't really be sure if they add any extra top end until I rejet to a bigger main jet.
As I've said, the sliders really don't cost any more that the better quality rollers so I think they're a good deal.
We'll see about the longevity part with time I guess.
-
Ah, okay. I'll be interested to hear how they perform after the re-jet then.
So if they did wear out fast for some reason you would buy more of the same instead of the regular ones?
