If you are like me, I can not read the MPH part of the speedo (old eyes-old fart) so the km is the one. Borrowed my friends GPS and here are the readings, KM = mph.
KM MPH
60 == 30
90 == 45
100 = 55
110 = 60
125 = 70
145 = 80 chceked twice with the GPS

I did not use a conversion. These are the speeds I was going using a GPS showing MPH and reading the KH numbers on the Kimco 500's speedo since the Mph part of the speed-o is so small I can't read it. As the speed-o showed 60 km,the GPS showed I was doing 30MPH, 90KM I was doing 45MPH and so on. The speed-o on my 500 is way off.

Wow, that is really way off. I used the .621 conversion factor. I then used a lable maker and made stick on tabs and overlayed them on the speedo. But now I don't know if they are even close. Do you think all 500's are that far off???

Don't know if it is all 500's,but thats the differance on mine. It is a 2007 with about 300 miles now. When I take it in for its 600 mile overpriced oil change to keep the warranty I will see if something can be done.The GPS I used was on the money in my car,so I feel good about the stats. Ask a local Police to clock you as a starting,or borrow a Gps like I did. I find it very sad how far mine is off.

Well for $149.00 I got a oil &filter change,they did not even clean the screen. No way to adjust the speed-o,but they did say that at 612 miles the break pads look good! Does that mean I need to watch them or they will ware out fast????? Well the rest of the maintance will be done by me.

WOW $150 bucks you have to be kidding :o i give all my customers a free service for the first one even after that it would only be around 50.00 bucks

i have read a lot of post regarding the speedo reading, is it really that off? is all xciting 500 have the magnetic/electronic speed sensor or watchama call it?

Every motorcycle, and both other motor scooters, I have owned have had inaccurate speedo. I am a recent convert to scooters, and love my XC500, which is named Puff, in case you're interested.
My '07 XC500 is real close, if not on the money, to what hgw75 posted. I clocked mine by one of those roadside radar things that show your speed. My '07 now has over 16,300 miles on, about 14 months old. Still runs great, and I think the Motorcycle shop - which is my local Kymco dealer - is the best. Many times, they have performed extra services without nickel and dime-ing me to death.

I strapped the GPS to my right leg (above the knee of course) using an elastic strap ..dont know what you guys call them we call them bungee straps or octopus straps. My speedo was way out at 100kph it was reading 118kph .....as best as I could determine while riding at 100kph and looking at my leg with one eye and the speedo with another and what was going on on the roadway with another..you get the picture ;D

I did not mount a gps on my scoot,used a friends gps that straped to my wrist like a watch. Still like the scoot,have 5500 miles on it now.

I use the suction cup mount on my Nuvi on the scooter. Mount it right on the tall Givi windshield. Was a bit afraid I may hit bump and it would break suction and fall off so I looped a light cord around the windshield mount and tied it to the GPS mount as a safety strap. But in two years of riding on several scooters I have not had a problem. I have used it on my Goldwing mounted the same way and driven thousands of miles and hit some pretty good bumps on the road with no problem as well. Makes it easy to move from vehicle to vehicle.

I used the suction cup mount on my people 50 and my honda metropolitan . The met spedo was right on , at 80 kph my people 50 was actually doing 43 mph .

I thought I'd revive this thread, as my xc's speedo sucks, too.
Technology has advance a bit in 5 years and most of us have these new-fangled smart phones with buit in gps. You can get an ap which displays your speed, some are analog and look like a speedometer but I prefer a digital display and am using DigiHUD, not endorsing because it isn't perfect. Anyway Ram Mounts has a gadget called x-grip. I ordered one and will be installing it shortly. Will post pictures.

It will be mounted similarly to the gps one on this mp3. I'll have to play around with the mount when I get it, will probably go above the cowling so I can use the phone as a camera.

Try the iBike Moto app. It'll record details about your ride including average speed and max speed. You can use it like a gps also.

$150 for an oil change! Find a new dealer. No the break pads wear like iron. Buy K&N (#147) oil filters with the nut on the bottom and change your own oil. Very easy to do. This dealer is trying to rip you off at every opportunity. My 2007 has about 42-43,000 miles on it, and I have never adjusted the valves. I changed the front break pads a long time ago only because I wanted better breaking of/with a sintered metal pad. Change your own oil, air filter, break pads etc. All very easy. :-*

Crappy picture, sorry. I've gotten used to using the smartphone which was momentarily indisposed. :)
Ram Mount plate is set in silicone and mounted to the cowling with #6 5/8" self tapping Spax pan head screws.
I'll start a new thread with more pics and thoughts on the X-Grip in Technical/How To.
