Title: What To Lubricate On A Scooter

My throttle cable might be sticking a little so I'm thinking of putting some silicone down the cable.

we all need some 'lubrificant'!  I actually like this guy...have seen a few of his videos. I think control cables are one of the most overlooked areas of maintenance on older scoots. I use Motion Pro Cable Lube because that's what my local motorcycle shop carries and recommends. Kinda pricey but good stuff.

Interesting work around on the throttle cable. That looks a whole lot easier than disassembling the cable from the grip and lubing the traditional way. Any method that gets a good lube down you cable is fine with me! Lube on!

Is there a risk of putting too much silicone in a throttle cable? Does the cable vent on the other end?

Yes, the excess will drip out the other end. Just put a rag under that overnight to catch the excess and you should be good to go!

So I spent about 45min attempting to get silicone down the brake cable but was unable to get silicone to come out the other end. Should that be the goal? Seems like it would need pressure to get over the rise in the cable from the engine.

yes, getting lube out the other end of the cable is usually the goal. That way you know you got it all lubed. Is it possible to unhook your throttle cable from the carb so it can hang down lower to help run the lube through it, if that's you issue?

Every time I lube a cable I seem to get more everywhere else than down the cable...I eventually get them lubed but I waste a lot of lube in the process!

Or you could try blowing it through (carefully wiping off cable end before hand).
Motion Pro makes a lubing tool that works well, cuts down on wasted lube.  The newer version is worth the extra $,
but at $23 you may not use it enough to justify the cost.

Btw Vision, found the vids quite helpful, as they pointed out parts to lube I hadn't considered.  Doing so made
a noticeable difference.

I use the motion pro cable luber..and STILL get lube everywhere!

@Iahawk, thanks, looks like I'll have to try again. And the best method I've come up with is to use a paper towel and squeeze tightly. That seemed to not leak everywhere for a second or so.
