Not exactly in the Iron Butt category, but thought you guys may like to read about a "scatter rally" which takes place in the UK (well England to be accurate) each year. Website here: https://www.nationalroadrally.co.uk/nrr/index.php
Only just checked for this year and it's too late now for me to get my backside into gear for 2021 and 2020 was a write off for obvious reasons. Maybe 2022? I last did this a few years back on my Daytona with two buddies - one of whom has now hung up his leathers owing to dementia and the other has since died in London in a motorcycle accident. We had a great day out and I'd like to do the Rally again in memory of the great times we had, though it looks like next time it's likely to be a solo ride.
We entered a team of three regularly in the 80's and 90's and in 1988 I won a special Gold award - still have the trophy on my desk! So, 2022 on a Kymco? I see no reason why not.

Sounds like a good time, sorry about the loss of your friend's. Wasn't sure how to word that, but I consider dementia a loss.

Thanks KK. He’s still OK at the moment but, responsibly I think, decided that he was no longer functioning at a level which allowed him to drive / ride. It’s a horrible illness though and dreadful to see the gradual diminution of a dear friend’s faculties.

I know all to well, a friend of the family Rosie had it and was put in a Catholic care facility. I use to take one of my Collies and visit her until she passed. You should of seen the joy on the residents faces when I brought a Collie into the facility. I remember the door was designed to look like a book case so the residents would not wander off. Two years ago I lost a good friend to esophageal cancer, he never made it to retirement. It teaches you to cherish the little things in life.

Few yrs ago I flew to Florida to bring my father back from his condo to a care facility. I put his Stetson on him and rolled him down to the dock near the Gulf of Mexico. To show him the water and the gulls one last time. Not sure he noticed.
Flew him back to Ohio with my Mom. He was transferred to Wright Patterson AF Base hospital, where, as a retired Air Force Colonel - they treated him with the utmost respect. My brother spoke with my Mom, then gave the nod, and they turned off his life support.
Three years before this he gave us a pamphlet which detailed all he would be going through over the coming years.
I didn't believe him. He was a life-long tennis champ, ran in 5, 10 15K races. Very fit, all his life.

What can one say to that Tom, other than to sympathise? It’s a pernicious, indiscriminate illness and I feel for all the friends and loved ones of anyone suffering it.

looks like it would be a lot of fun!...and sorry to hear about your riding mates...that's not fun.
