When my father was stationed in Paris years ago he took us to the American cemetery which overlooks Omaha beach, Normandy, France.
Not possible to describe the sensation when standing there.....

There are many cemeteries nearby - for the British, Canadian, French and German.....and several of the villages nearby have memorials and statues as well.
