Title: "That's a lovely helmet!"
Post by: Stig / Major Tom on April 27, 2021, 11:30:48 AM
Passerby (is that a word?).... complimented me on my helmet sitting on the table by my coffee.
I said, "yes, I'm better looking when I put it on."

Couple of years ago, just down the sidewalk, another passerby commented, "that's an awfully big helmet for such a small scooter!"
I was getting off of my Honda Forza 300.

I was embarrassed for my Forza for having such a big head...... (I wear XXXL & XXXXL helmets)

Studies have shown that its 100% better to have an intact head than no head.

“Passerby”? Yes, it’ll do for me Stig.  I got a big napper too, maybe  not  3XL but defo XXL and the LS2 is snug even after a year’s use! Ignore the rudeness and carry on ploughing your own style furrow. Most of us do 😂

Yes, you are right, it's really big.
If you compare, about the size of your scoots rear inclusive trunk.😉
But serious, here such a comment (from a stranger) would be considered very impolite.

No worries - I was just taken by surprise to hear this from a person in this village famous for it's gentle acceptance of others. Generally - hateful people are rare in this friendly community.
But, being a "destination" village on summer weekends - all kinds wander in.

As for my helmets - I never have been able to "stow" them inside a scooter or a top case. Not in a Burgman 400, Forza 300, LIKE200i or it's Bestem 929 case, Piaggio Liberty nor in it's Piaggio top case.....
In the winter I just wear it like a warm hat into public places (grocers, donut or coffee shops, diners, McDonalds,  etc.)
On warmer days .....I do the same :)

If I sit down inside, I take it off.

"That's a lovely helmet..."  Where is the impoliteness in that comment.  I've gotten similar comments about my Schubert helmet, my riding jacket, boots, etc.  And these comments come from people who probably don't - but wish they did - ride.  And sometimes those comments start a very pleasant conversation.  Stig, I hope you took the comment as a compliment.
