Hi all. I was a member years ago. I still have my '07 exciting 500 but haven't used it in over 5 vrs. It's been in shed all that time. Will probably be asking advice on getting it going again. The reason I quit riding it was it developed a symptom in which it would start n run but only run at a very slow speed and rpm. Like a faulty accelerator pump. Never had time to dig into it. Now l recon it'll need major f system clean out too. It was parked last with stabilizer in it at least - if that's worth anything. Typing on tiny phone keypad here - forgive me.

And by the way, being an '07 it is carburated, not fuel injected, in case anyone was wondering. :-) I won't be in any hurry. In the meantime I still like viewing all pics and posts here.

I would start with a fuel system/carburetor cleaning and probably just replace the fuel pump. Being the fuel pump is vacuum and not electric they are only about 45 bucks. Make sure you get rid of any stale fuel.

Welcome back old friend. Your rubber diaphragm located just under the carb top/cap has a pin hole (or worse) hole in it. Easy fix, can do it your self. The spring will pop out, don't lose it. Then run a few cans of carb cleaner through it. My 07 had set for about 2 years when I bought it. Started, but would not idle. Idle jet was clogged. After running it through a few tanks of gas with cleaners, it cleared right up. Good luck, and make sure you put spring and needle back in correctly. A slight smear of grease on outer edge of diaphragm will keep it in side recessed area of carb that the rubber lip go's down inside of top of carb. Do this so you can put cap back on without worrying about crimping the rubber if it pops out of carb top when putting cap back on.

My 2007 had a problem that acted exactly like a plugged pilot jet. It had a hesitation or flat spot on Acceleration. It turned out to be some electronic box. Sadly it has been a few years and I can't remember for sure where it was located. After cleaning the carb about 16 times with no success, I started swapping parts and solved it. Luckily I had a parts donor bike on hand. Mine had an electric fuel pump.

Hey SM ! It's good to see you too. You're just the guy I was hoping would get wind of my plight. Your post is just like I remember for this issue. Now the question becomes where should I order a diaphragm? And will I need to order any other parts? I've got an exploded view of the carb but can't figure which one is the diaphragm. The Kymco shop in Tallahassee couldn't help. I know I can do the work.
